Check Out Meghan Markle’s Fancy New British Accent

By

Meghan Markle has been making her rounds as a new royal, which I’m pretty sure means spending tons of time with the Queen and talking to a bunch of random people in the process. But what do I know? I’m not British! For all I know, she’s spent the past month or so after marriage doing nothing but drinking tea.

But it is clear that Markle is spending ample time meeting the people of her new country and displaying what seems to be a brand new, posh British accent, which you can hear pretty clearly in this Twitter video.

While she may not be speaking in a full-on accent, you can definitely hear it in her “thank you”s and when she says, “Yes we all had a great day, I think. The sun was shining for us.” It is clear that the old Meghan Markle is dead and gone. Or, you know, that spending so much time around her hubby and his royal family is starting to finally rub off on her.

Some may criticize Markle for “faking” an accent, but honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s not even fully aware that she’s using one. After spending some time living in Italy, I’ve been told I take on an Italian accent when I hear someone speaking the native language, even though I’ve never done it on purpose and only realized it after a friend pointed it out. It’s really just about exposure, and Meghan Markle sure has a lot of it.

Or maybe it’s what I always suspected: when you an inherit an English title, you also inherit an accent. Meghan Markle never stood a chance.
