Amy Poehler Is The Hero The World Needs Right Now

By

In a new piece for The Hollywood Reporter, the publication decided to honor 40(ish) comedians for their financial success in their field. There are a lot of people you’d expect: Tina Fey, Judd Apatow, Dave Chappelle. But Amy Poehler, the comedic genius behind Parks and Recreation, was the true standout of the article.

The Hollywood Reporter reached out to interview some of their honorees, one of whom was Poehler. And while the publication asked some pretty fluffy, light-hearted questions like “What’s your guilty pleasure?” and “What would you do if you didn’t work in comedy?”, Amy decided to raise the stakes and make it a little more political.

Here’s a clip of her interview:

My most memorable heckler… “Who cares? The whole world is on fire.”

Dream product endorsement “A giant whale just died in Thailand after eating 80 plastic bags.”

Guilty pleasure “Let’s not forget over 4,600 people have died in Puerto Rico.”

I’m funny because… “I don’t even know anymore.”

If I didn’t work in comedy… “I would never leave my house.”

College comedy audiences are… “Kids that are afraid they will be shot in their own schools. What has happened to us?”

Sitcom you’d reboot? Mr. Rogers. I miss him. We need him.”

The funniest thing about the Trump administration is… “Are you kidding me?”

I mean, can you blame her? The past few weeks have been madness, and while we may turn to comedians to distract us from what’s going on, it looks like Amy Poehler isn’t interested and glossing over reality. One thing’s clear: we’ve got to get our shit together.

Honorary shoutout to Michael Schur, the producer-writer behind The Good Place and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, for this little quip when asked what the funniest part of the Trump administration was: “Their haircuts! They all have such bad haircuts. It’s like, who styled these people, am I right? Do they even have mirrors? Oh man, their haircuts are all so, so, so silly. Another funny thing about the administration is that it is rife with corrupt fascists who are undermining the basic pillars of democracy.”

Good day, all.
