This Plot Point In ’13 Reasons Why’ Season 2 Might Make Fans ‘Very, Very Upset’

If you thought the first season of 13 Reasons Why was divisive, just you wait — apparently, that was just the tip of the controversial iceberg.

When the show first premiered last year, some people called the show “revolutionary.” Others called it “triggering,” considering the Netflix original didn’t hold back on its graphic depictions of rape, suicide, and grief. In fact, it even led to the show later adding trigger warnings before graphic episodes and Netflix creating a cast-made disclaimer about the tough subjects the show tackled.

But if you thought that was all the show was going to throw at viewers, you were sorely wrong. According to producer Brian Yorkey, one of the upcoming episodes in season two is probably going to blow up online, and not necessarily in the good way. Yorkey told Digital Spy:

“There are people who will not be happy with it. But we approached the season thinking and knowing that Hannah told her story the way she understood it. And I think she told the truth – and I am a person who thinks that Hannah told the truth. But she told it from her perspective and she didn’t tell everything.”

Well, you know what they say: there’s always two sides of a story. And unfortunately, they don’t always match up. Yorkey hopes the episode will start a conversation, much like the first season of the show did. And knowing how that one blew up, there’s a pretty good chance of that.

Altogether, we don’t really know what’s going to happen with season two, aside from an upcoming trial involving Hannah’s suicide and the way her classmates and students responded (and, most likely, what some of them did to her). But we have a feeling the road to justice is going to be incredibly — and maybe even impossibly — bumpy.
