This Frat Was Shut Down After It Got Caught Having A Fucked Up Fat-Shaming Sex Contest

By

One Cornell fraternity was recently placed on probation for two years after an investigation revealed the members held the most disgusting, offensive contest I’ve heard of in a long time. New members of Zeta Beta Tau were encouraged to sleep with as many women as possible and were given points for each, with additional points given for heavier women. The fat-shaming contest’s name? The Pig Roast.

Yeah, I told you it was pretty despicable. It’s perhaps even worse that the women had no idea about the competition.

The chapter of the frat put out a statement on Facebook about the competition, claimed they were “horrified” that the members were objectifying and degrading women, which, okay, sure you were. Not like frats would ever encourage the objectification of women, would they?

The school’s vice president for student and campus life, Ryan Lombardi, said in a statement:

“The behavior that Zeta Beta Tau (ZBT) fraternity was recently found responsible for is abhorrent to me and antithetical to our values as a community. Behavior that degrades and dehumanizes women contributes to a climate and culture of tolerance for sexual violence. While sanctions have been levied against this fraternity by the Fraternity and Sorority Review Board, the campus community will be watching to see whether the members of ZBT – as individuals and as a group – live up to their public pledge to demonstrate ‘through our actions that this inexcusable behavior will not be tolerated. It is incumbent that all members of the Greek system and the campus as a whole challenge any form of sexual misconduct and the behaviors that foster it.”

Look, let’s be honest — you can argue that not all frat bros are bad, but that doesn’t change the fact that a lot of frat culture is pretty toxic to women. This isn’t just a change one fraternity needs to work on — it’s something the entire system should be actively trying to change. The fact of the matter is that there is probably no one surprised to hear about this contest. It’s almost something we’ve come to expect from frats.

Let’s hold fraternities to higher standards. It’s about damn time.
