A Teacher Fired Shots In A Georgia High School And It Just Shows That Arming Faculty Isn’t The Solution

By

Earlier today, exactly two weeks after the Florida shooting, a teacher at Dalton High School in Dalton, Georgia fired a gun and barricaded himself in a classroom for 30 mins until authorities were able to take him into custody.

It is unclear what the teacher was planning to do with the handgun, as he reportedly refused to let students into the classroom because he didn’t want to involve them in the incident. Students were evacuated from the school and the building was put on lockdown before police were eventually able to get the situation under control.

This incident seems particularly newsworthy given the discussion around gun control and arming teachers that has arisen in the wake of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that killed 17 students and faculty. It may make the GOP want to rethink their stance on letting guns in public schools.

Or who knows! Maybe people will come up with another ~great~ solution involving guns! (More guns!!!)

Or, you know, maybe we could try not putting more guns into schools. But what do I know? I’m just a lowly citizen who’s been watching the news cycle for years, wondering when the hell someone is actually going to do something about gun violence.
