Depression is a crippling mental illness that doesn’t always have an easy fix. Even with medication and therapy, someone with depression might struggle just to get out of bed some days. But just as difficult as it is to struggle with depression, it’s difficult to watch someone you love grapple with it and realize there’s almost nothing you can do to help.
But this devoted boyfriend decided to find a method to help his girlfriend get through everyday life and complete her Master’s degree. And that’s why he created the popsicle method.
Each “category” is color coded so for example orange are inspirational quotes from poets, political figures, philosophers, and humanitarians across time.
Yellow reminders are positive words to help you through the day things like “you’re beautiful” and “it’s ok to ask for help”
the purple ones are tips to help her relax things like “take a break” while she’s working on her master’s or “listen to your favorite song”.
I put a fine tipped sharpie in there with the blank ones so she record moments when she’s the happiest and then she can pull one of those later when she needs it.
People online thought the idea was brilliant. Even if the method isn’t foolproof, it’s really the thought that counts — and it’s that thought that may actually help his girlfriend in the end.
This is honestly such a beautiful idea. I’m going to keep this in mind for the future — you never know when you might need it.
