‘Cards Against Humanity’ Surprised Some Of Its Customers With $1,000 Checks For This Amazing Reason
Cards Against Humanity is known for pulling stunts to bring attention to important issues, which has landed them in the news cycle more than once. Now they’re making headlines once again, and this time it’s for an honestly great reason.
Last month, they a special holiday product called “Cards Against Humanity Saves America,” where customers paid $15 to help the company buy a plot of land in an effort to stop the U.S.-Mexico wall from being built. In return, the customers would get surprise gifts all throughout December, and it looks like some of those people got luckier than others.
Reddit user Arbiter5154 received this rather interesting letter in the mail this week:
It read:
Dear Citizen,
In order to deliver on our promise to save America, we knew we needed to tackle our country’s biggest issue: wealth inequality. The richest 0.1% of Americans have as much wealth as the bottom 90%.
Our lawyers wouldn’t let us pursue our first choice – a campaign to eat all the rich people and live in their houses – so we settled for something more achievable. Today, Cards Against Humanity has redistributed everyone’s wealth.
We’ve got some good news and some bad news. Let’s start with the bad: according to the survey you filled out when you signed up for CAH Saves America, you are one of the poorest 100 recipients. Now for the good news: you’re getting a check for $1,000, paid for by everyone else. Yes, the check is real, and you can actually cash it. That’s right, the company sent $1,000 checks to their lowest-income customers in an effort to bring attention to the wage gap, which is honestly a huge problem in the U.S. (and much of the world). According to the letter, they also sent money to the next 10,000 lowest income customers:
P.S. The next 10,000 poorest recipients got a $15 refund check. But who cares about them.
However, those who didn’t qualify for money got this nice little letter instead, along with cards that read “Oh shit, I just got my money stolen by Cards Against Humanity and redistributed to people poorer than me.”
I just got my Cards Against Humanity day three gift. I had a good chuckle and thought you all might enjoy the thoughtful letter.
