Sherin Matthews, a 3-year-old from Texas, went missing on Saturday after her father forced her to stand outside alone at night as punishment for not drinking her milk.

Matthews was last seen by her father, Wesley Matthews, at 3 a.m. on Saturday. When she refused to drink her milk, he had taken to stand by a tree behind the alley in their backyard. He went back inside, and when he returned 15 minutes later to check on her, Matthews was gone. She is now believed to be in immediate danger.

Despite disappearing around 3 a.m., Wesley did not contact the police until five hours later. When authorities arrived, they spotted coyotes near the alley in the Matthews’ backyard, though they are not quick to believe she was dragged away by one.

Wesley was arrested on Saturday for abandoning and endangering a child, but was released on a $250,000 bond.

Wesley and his wife adopted Sherin, who is developmentally disabled, has limited verbal skills, and was malnourished when they brought her in.

Though authorities put out an amber alert this past weekend, it was retracted Monday due to lack of new information. Matthews was last seen wearing a pink top and black pajama bottoms. Anyone with information is asked to call the Richardson police department at (972) 744-4800.
