This Bar Made A Racist ‘Welcome Mat’ From NFL Jerseys And People Are Pissed

There’s been a whole lot of controversy surrounding people kneeling during the National Anthem, but none quite as racist as this Missouri bar’s “welcome mat” consisting of a few football players’ jerseys.

So, what’s so wrong with turning jerseys into welcome mats? In essence, nothing — it’s as much a form of protest as anything else. BUT, well, it wasn’t just how the jerseys were used, but what they read when they were taped to the ground.

S.N.A.F.U Bar took Marshawn Lynch and Colin Kaepernick and placed them side-by-side so that they read, “Lynch Kaepernick.”

But, of course, the bar owner insisted he was totally not trying to be racist, nuh-uh, no way. Him, racist? Of course not. Never. How could anyone ever think that?

“If someone thinks that I mean personal harm to someone, they don’t know me,” said bar-owner Jason Burle.

Oh really? Does he realize that just because he doesn’t intend to actually lynch anyone, it doesn’t making joking about it right? Or is he going to continue to insist that really, honestly, he promises, there’s literally no way that putting those shirts in that exact formation even crossed his mind as being racist. Not even when the football players have been protesting because of racism. No link there whatsoever, I’m sure.

After someone posted the photo of the “welcome mats” to Facebook and shamed the bar, Burle reached out to comment.

“It’s funny to me that someone would look that far deeply into it just to find a racist link,” he said.

Trust me, Burle, I didn’t have to look that far.

It doesn’t matter that Burle was a Veteran and felt personally offended by Kaepernick’s protest; it doesn’t matter that he thinks he did nothing wrong. At the end of the day, this is why NFL players were protesting in the first place — it’s the open ignorance and racism from people like this bar owner that’s going to keep people kneeling.
