People Think The World Is Going To End This Week, Thanks To This Biblical Prophesy

By

Ah, the end of the world, one of mankind’s favorite topics these days. If we aren’t wishing the apocalypse upon ourselves (because the world is TERRIBLE when is this going to stop ugh), then we’re definitely trying to figure out when it’s coming, because the end is near and we all know it.

But according to some people, it may be even sooner than we think. And by that I mean, like, in less than a week, which is terrible because I was really looking forward to Halloween but also great because I guess that means I get to stop paying off my student loans? (Unless my eternal punishment is to spend all my time in the afterlife trying to pay off my student loans, in which case, well played.)

Anyway, Unsealed, an evangelical Christian publication, has predicted that the rapture is on it’s way — in fact, according to them, the exact date is September 23, 2017. They explain their reasoning in a four-minute video that is actually surprisingly well-made. What better way to spend your last few weeks on earth, I guess?

The prediction comes from Christian numerologist David Meade, who has, for some reason, honed into the number 33. Meade explained the theory in an interview with the Washington Post:

“Jesus lived for 33 years. The name Elohim, which is the name of God to the Jews, was mentioned 33 times [in the Bible]. It’s a very biblically significant, numerologically significant number. I’m talking astronomy. I’m talking the Bible … and merging the two.”

And what was 33 days before September 23? The total solar eclipse, which Meade believes in an omen that’s pointing to some doom and gloom in our immediate future. He claimed that while September 23 might not technically be the end of the world (nice loophole for when people criticize you for being wrong in the future, Meade), it’s when the prophesies from the Book of Revelation will begin to manifest, which will lead to the Rapture. Yippee!

But not everyone is on board with Meade’s predictions. In fact, Ed Stetzer, pastor and executive director of Wheaton College’s Billy Graham Center, pretty much things the whole thing BS and calling out Meade for having “nothing more than a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Astrology from an unnamed institution.” He went on to say:

Whenever someone tells you they have found a secret number code in the Bible, end the conversation. Everything else he or she says can be discounted.

Hm, I’m seeing some strong arguments from both sides.

So yeah, if you’ve been one of those people praying for the world to just finally get this whole “apocalypse” thing over with, you may be in luck! But also, if you’ve been one of those people praying that the world doesn’t end, you may also be in luck! Who knows! Everything is terrible and we have no control or true foresight into the future of our planet!
