It’s been a pretty rough weekend in the U.S. After a “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virgina that turned deadly and Trump’s refusal to denounce the white supremacists who held it, it’s definitely been difficult to remain positive about the future.

But every now and then, something happens to remind us that not everything is terrible. For instance, this principal decided to react to the tragedy by encouraging teachers to stand up against racism and oppression by showing support to the Black Lives Matter movement.

It may be small, but little movements like this matter — it shows solidarity and allyship, which is important for teens struggling in the aftermath of the rally. It’s important that they know there are people who are there to support them, even within their academic community.

Let’s start making this a thing, OK? Screw leaving politics out of school — this is something bigger than that, and it matters.
