Zara Tried To Sell These Dumbass Pepe The Frog Skirts And People On Twitter Weren’t Having It
Another day, another fashion brand that has to apologize from some stupid-ass design that’s actually 100 percent offensive.
This week’s culprit is Zara, who not only thought this weirdly-ripped denim skirt would be a good idea, but also decided to spice it up with a little Pepe the Frog.

For those of you who might not know, Pepe the Frog started as a somewhat-wholesome meme that quickly went down a dark path when it became appropriated by white supremacist groups. In fact, it got so bad that the Anti-Defamation League declared it a hate symbol in 2016.
People were, of course, appalled at the skirt’s design.

Some related it to the other recent controversies that have been happening.

Other people didn’t really see a problem with it, honestly.
Literally censored the word pepe and are offended by a frog meme, holy shit

You realize that those implications are based on the context of its usage right? Nothing about a frog on a skirt is racist.

This certainly isn’t the first time Zara has been under fire for controversial products. In the past, they were criticized for selling children’s clothing that looked like concentration camp uniforms and purses with swastikas embroidered on the side.

Honestly, I kind of wish I could’ve been sitting in on the meeting when the designers decided this skirt would be a good idea. “Memes are cool,” I imagine someone saying. “And wearing hate symbols is what all the ~edgy~ cool kids do these days.” You know, or something.
Zara hasn’t commented on the skirt, but they did pull it from their online store, which I guess says something nonetheless.
