Even Drake Thinks Chance The Rapper Should Run For Mayor Of Chicago

By

Now that Chance the Rapper has become the public hero that Chicago needed, what’s next in store for the artist? He’s obviously got some interesting projects coming our way (I’m still free if you want to hire me, Chano), but some of us already have something else in mind: have you ever thought about getting into politics, Chance?

That’s right, ladies and gents. We’re talking #ChanoForMayor.

Why would he be a good candidate? Well, just look at everything he’s done for Chicago in general. He’s worked to stop gun violence, he’s encouraged people to vote early in the election, he’s supplied coats for people experiencing homelessness and he’s on a mission to fund the Chicago Public Schools so they won’t have to close early this year. He’s got some mad love for his city, and his city loves him right back.

In fact, there’s an entire website dedicated to convincing Chance to run for the position. Chano4mayor.com gives a whole list of reasons why Chance is exactly what Chicago needs.

Rahm Emanuel has been in office since 2011. In that time we’ve seen the closure of 50 public schools, the largest in history. The city shut down 6 of its 12 mental health clinics. The Department of Justice found a pattern of civil rights violations by the Chicago Police Department, including but not limited to the murder of Laquan McDonald. It’s time for change.

The appeal hasn’t gone completely ignored. In fact, even Drake weighed in on it when asked to.

That sounds like a hard yes to me, and even Chance took some time to acknowledge Drake’s endorsement.

Chano4mayor.com goes on to say that even if Chance decides not to run for mayor, they’ll love him regardless, though they hope he won’t stop standing up for what’s right.

Let’s say you decide not to run. That’s cool too, but we hope you will still get involved. Will you speak with candidates for mayor about CPS, like you did with Governor Rauner? Will you endorse a candidate who will fight for the South and West sides? Will you help Chicago’s youth participate in Chicago elections, and encourage your fans to vote?

You don’t have to decide right now. 2019 is kind of a long way away. But the people are screaming for you, and Chicago is hungry for change. Think about it…

Fuck it, if a reality TV star can become President of the United States, a rapper can become the mayor of Chicago. Don’t @ me, haters.
