In the 1980s, California was terrorized by a man dubbed “The Night Stalker” for a period from June 1984 until August 1985. Richard Ramirez was later apprehended, which started after he was sighted by a 13-year-old boy who thought him as “suspicious.” He was officially identified as the main suspect after his fingerprints were lifted from a car he had stolen and later abandonded. Ramirez was subdued by a group of bystanders, one of whom struck Ramirez on the head in the melee. Ramirez was sentenced to death, but ultimately died of B-cell lymphoma while on death row.
