1. I should throw out all of my socks with holes in them and just buy new ones.
At the moment, it is a safe bet that every single pair of socks I own have holes in them. every.damn.pair. A sensible human being would go well this isn’t comfortable, my toes just hanging out and all, and I should probably retire these bad boys. For some reason I continue to wear them.
Maybe you don’t have holey socks but I’m sure there is something in your life that you need to get rid of. As humans we have a natural tendency to have a tight grip on everything we own. Spring is coming fast so take the time to clean out the clutter from your life! You will feel much happier when you do.
2. Invest the money and buy some new pillows.
This entire semester I have been complaining about my lumpy, flat pillows that I rest my head on each night. Enough is enough. “Just buy new pillows!” I tell myself. The problem can be easily fixed with a trip to the Walmart and a few minutes of firmness testing in the aisle. Why am I allowing myself to sleep in discomfort?
You might not need new pillows but you might need new pillows. Get what I’m saying? No, of course not, that is why I’m going to explain. We all deserve happiness and comfort and yet we often settle for flat, lumpy pillows. These pillows do nothing for us. They are an obstacle to what we want. I want to sleep on what seems like a cloud. I need to ditch the rough for some fluff. If you have a problem in your life invest the time to figure out how the best way to fix it. You deserve the best! Don’t let a pillow tell you any different!
3. Fold the clean laundry and put it away.
I have this terrible habit of not putting away my clean clothes. They sit in my basket and I rummage through it each morning to try and find something to wear. This easily adds another 5 minutes to my morning routine. 5 minutes that I cannot spare when I’m trying to get out the door to my 8 AM class.
I’m sure there will be plenty of people reading this who will go, “Brooke, just take the time to put the clothes away as soon as they get out of the dryer.” And right you are fictitious reader but before you point out the dirty laundry in my room, notice the giant laundry basket in your own room! You might have not have clothes to put away but I’m sure there is something you are putting off because you don’t want to do it. You are probably reading this post right now instead of doing it. I say unto you, finish reading my post and then STOP PUTTING OFF TOMORROW WHAT YOU CAN DO TODAY.
4. Go to the gym more.
There are about a 1,000 different excuses I make to not go to the gym during the week. I’m busy. I’m tired. I have homework. Chocolate. I always forget the small fact that I actually like going to the gym. It is a much healthier form of procrastination then say binge watching an entire season of The West Wing on Netflix. Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Making time for the gym makes me feel good and it helps make me look good as well.
It is important to take care of yourself. Whoever is reading this might already be a cross fit champion but there are plenty of other ways that we are harmful to ourselves. Some of us have addictions to food, television, drugs, but you’re body is a temple. The only person who can take care of you is well you. Love yourself for who you are and take care of yourself because there is no one else quite like you.
5. Forgive and forget.
I’m sure there is some other chore metaphor that I could come up for this one but I’ll leave it for someone who is a bit more clever than I am. I don’t deal well with conflict. I have a tendency to just shut down and go radio silent. I don’t explode, there is no dramatic display of hostility but the problem with that is that I tend to keep it with me for a long time after. I have people in my life that I need to forgive. The forgiveness isn’t so much for them as it is for myself. I cannot live my life to the fullest if I hold on to my hurt feelings. I need to forgive the parties involved, forgive myself, and then move on with my life. All of us need to work on this one.
What are some of the things on your to do list?
