1. Ingrid Michaelson Feat. A Great Big World – “Over You”

A Great Big World just seems to be on point with this harmony stuff. This is another that is much like “Say Something” where the lyrics and melody are just put together beautifully. The lyrics are painting a picture of a couple that is desperately trying to get over one another.

2. Ed Sheeran – “Small Bump”

A song Ed wrote about a friend who had a miscarriage, “Small Bump” has some poetic lines that are sure to make you bawl.

3. Demi Lovato – “Skyscraper”

Skyscraper was the perfect song for her to release after she came out of rehab. The song seemed like it had a personal connection with Demi as it talks about staying strong.

4. One Direction – “Moments”

I know, I know, One Direction, how could one of their songs possibly make you cry? Well let me tell you; written by Ed Sheeran the song is pop-ballad about love that discusses not letting special ‘moments’ pass by. With a beautiful melody put to lyrics like “You know I’ll be, your life, your voice, your reason to be” this song is sure to get you to shed a tear or two.

5.  A Great Big World Feat. Christina Aguilera – “SAY Something”

Harmonies. Seriously this song has harmonies that are so beautiful that just the music itself can make me cry. In addition, the lyrics are heartbreaking and just the words “Say something, I’m giving up on you” are so powerful that if this song doesn’t make you cry then I don’t know what will.

6. BIRDY – “SKINNY LOVE”

Originally a song performed by Bon Iver, Birdy covered Skinny Love and did it justice. When asked about what the song really meant in an interview she replied by saying “But … to me it feels it’s like a break-up, people who really love each other but having to move on then.” The melody of the song always seems to make me shed a tear.

7. Christina Aguilera – “Hurt”

Hurt is a song that really brings out some raw emotions. Written by Aguilera with help of others, she wanted to write a song about losing a loved one. The song discusses the true pain of losing someone and how hurting them could ultimately hurt you in the end.

8. John Legend – “All Of Me”

A gorgeous song that is going to be played at every wedding of my generation. Legend co-wrote the song and dedicated it to his wife. Its amazing what you can do with a soft piano and one voice. This song is bound to make you tear up.

9. Ed Sheeran – “Wake Me Up”

A beautifully slow song about the love in a relationship. The lyrics are written brilliantly. “See I could do without a tan on my left hand, where my fourth finger meets my knuckle.” No one else in the pop world is writing lyrics that good right now.

10. Taylor Swift – “Untouchable”

For whatever reason this song always fills me with so many emotions that I just can’t help but cry. Its pretty and slow and the song is just so raw that crying to the song feels natural.

11. One Direction – “Little Things”

This is a song every single girl should hear at least once. Again I know its One Direction but the lyrics mean so much.  Written by a 17 year old Ed Sheeran, everyone has things they don’t like about themselves but this song is here to let you know you are beautiful despite your “little things.”

12. Birdy – “Not About Angels”

Featured on The Fault in Our Stars Movie Soundtrack. The song is played in the movie when Hazel has an emotional car ride. It’s a truly gorgeous song and every time I hear the song I think about the movie and book and tears begin flowing.

13. Sam Smith – “Stay With Me”

An emotional song about the desperation for someone’s love. Many of us have been there, just begging for someone to love you like you love them.

14. Demi Lovato – “Fix A Heart”

Fixing a broken heart can take so much time and grieving. The emotion of the situation is felt through Demi’s voice. If you have ever had a broken heart this  song will probably make you tear up.

15. Ed Sheeran – “All Of The Stars”

Another song on The Fault in Our Stars Movie Soundtrack. Ed Performed the song with one of the contestants of The Voice on the show. The harmonies are beautiful and again the song causes me to think about the movie and book – and both are a cry fest.

16. John Mayer – “Dreaming With A BROKEN Heart”

This song paired with this dance makes it even more emotional. Yet another song about dealing with a broken heart and realizing that waking up is hard because reality sets in.

17. Sara Bareilles – “Gravity”

This is a very powerful song about being under someone’s spell that you can’t seem to become free of. I believe the song is also a metaphor for addiction. Someone or something is holding you back from being who you want to be, and that high note towards the end will definitely cause you to burst into tears.

18. Coldplay – “Fix You”

Another song about addiction – the words “I will try  to fix you” are so powerful. Helping someone when they are at their worst, trying to fix someone who has a problem. The melody and lyrics together – you will be hysterical by the end.

And when you are finally done crying, turn this song on, dance around your room, and remember to ‘clap along if you feel like a room without a roof!’
