6-Year-Old Expresses His Existential Despair

  • 0

Uh-oh. Did someone just discover the inherent paradox of human consciousness within the context of limited lifespan and the physical laws of the universe? Is someone going to be our next Sartre? This 6-year-old existential poet is Julian, the son of a redditor, and soon to be among the ranks of Camus, Pessoa, et al. May Thought Catalog be the first to welcome him into the literary canon. β€œWhenever you feel hopeless, all you need to do is go outside and realize that you have been molded into human form for some reason. You are somewhere you may never be again. Your actions, no matter how inconsequential you think they may be, have been essential.” ― Brianna Wiest

β€œWe have calcium in our bones, iron in our veins, carbon in our souls, and nitrogen in our brains. 93 percent stardust, with souls made of flames, we are all just stars that have people names.” ― Nikita Gill

man i wish i could just link stuff from reddit, write a paragraph about it, and become a thought catalog superstar

difficult to understand why you'd spend time perusing the blogosphere while ridiculing/ apparently finding offensive one of its primary/traditional templates of delivering viral news/ interest stories whenever the template appears, as you do. i feel like a normal person in that situation would just scroll quickly away for lack of interest and better ways of prioritizing one's time. also it seems hard to understand why you would posit 'superstardom' (thanks for that btw) solely to one's quick-hit write-ups when the information that the 'offending' author has written ~60 – 100 non-viral/quick-hit articles for the site in question (as well as performing editorial duties) is like immediately apparent (you only have to click on the byline, which appears at the top of the article) and thus simple to prove literally inaccurate…

      • benjamin

Why don't you do to his comment what you suggest he does to the article?

Or is your lack of self-referential performative insight just a coy attempt at irony?

      • Brandon

i don't just scroll past because i have a real, vested interest in logically disproving comments that exist simply to ridicule, esp. when the basis by which the ridicule hinges upon is literally inaccurate.

Not everyone reads Reddit. And not everyone has the time to scroll endlessly through the blogasphere. I appreciate when things like this are posted. Short and sweet and make internet scrolling moments better.

  • Bibbles

Sweet, I read it a couple a day ago.

Did you see the person drawn on the right above the bird? This kid's also got some mad representation of angst through scribble-head skills.

I think it’s just someone with a big head that’s been cut off by a scanner…

The closest I got to this was writing about the Kosovo conflict in my news jotter age 6. The teacher laid a fucking egg, lemme tell ya.

Of course it was all lost on me.

Had I known how not to give a damn when I was six then life would have been a lot easier today. I think.
