7 Hidden Scary Movies Only True Horror Fans Will Dare To Stream On Netflix

By

Calling all fellow horror connoisseurs! Scary movies were created to play out our greatest fears and phobias, but not every movie listed under the horror genre is successful in doing so in a tasteful way. Check out this list of hidden gems on Netflix that will have you at the edge of your seat (or hiding underneath the covers) until the credits begin rolling.

The Tortured (2010)

A couple hatch a twisted plan to take revenge on the man who killed their son.

The psychology behind this movie is insane. You will have trouble deciding who you want to sympathize with until the very end. Between the realistic gore and the sound effects, it is important to disclose that you shouldn’t watch this film if you don’t have a strong stomach.

Hush (2016)

A deaf writer who retreated into the woods to live a solitary life must fight for her life in silence when a masked killer appears in her window.

I’m loving that the horror industry is starting to focus on frightening real-life circumstances- like desensitizing the main character. It really takes this classic cat and mouse situation to the next level.

Before I Wake (2016)

Foster parents welcome a young boy into their home. The couple becomes startled when their dead biological son suddenly appears in their living room. To their surprise, the adopted boy’s dreams can magically become real- but so can his nightmares.

The dreamscape visuals in this movie are awesomely terrifying, and the director has mad framing skills. A sound plot not solely based on the unrealistic phenomenon and decorated with some quality jump scares? You couldn’t possibly go wrong.

Dark Signal (2016)

A stranded woman and the staff of a radio station team up to solve a girl’s murder after her spirit returns with a message.

This film interestingly introduces a chilling connection between technology and the supernatural. You may think you have everything figured out- several times- but you don’t.

1922 (2017)

A rancher conspires to murder his wife for financial gain and convinces his teenage son to participate.

They do say money is the root of all evil (or in this case, lack thereof). The art of manipulation is really showcased in this film- in the worst way possible.

Clinical (2017)

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eth7JUKVwok&w=560&h=315]

After being traumatized when a patient violently attacks her, a psychiatrist tries to repair her life by helping a new patient who has his own terrifying history.

I’ve always been a sucker for movies that detail the horrors behind mental illness. Though this movie starts off seemingly predictable, you will not be ready for the plot twist ending that ties everything together.

XX (2017)

In the first short film, “The Box,” a boy starts to display strange behavior after looking inside a mysterious gift box. In “The Birthday Party,” a woman refuses to let an untimely death ruin her son’s bash. In “Don’t Fall,” an innocent camping trip turns deadly, and last but not least, in “Her Only Living Son,” a mother must deal with her child… from hell.

The beauty of short films is that you’re introduced to the plot right away, so you don’t have those boring “why is this information pertinent” moments. This movie is broken down into 4 separate short films. If you are a fan of “Tales from the Crypt”, you will love this American anthology.
