9 Ways To Love A Mood Swinger

By

They get happy. They get sad. They feel like they’re on top of the world one minute and later feel beaten down. At times, you want to swing a chair at their face. One moment they’re oh-so-loving and sweet, then in a blink they hate your guts. They will have mixed emotions that even they can’t understand, and it will drive you crazy mad.

If you choose to love a mood swinger, better take note of the following ways I’ve learned to love someone whose moods swing from the North Pole to the South Pole in just minutes.

1. Give them space.

There will be times when they just don’t feel like talking or hanging out with you. Don’t take it personally. Let them know you will always be there for them. They may not be able to explain how they’re feeling or why because they find it hard to understand themselves. Every now and then, they need that space where they can just be alone, think, and let go. Respect their space.

2. Hold your ground.

When they are in a bad mood, hold your ground. Don’t ever let their mood affect yours. When they are in a great mood, always remember to plant happy thoughts. It may take time and effort to grow and nourish those happy thoughts, but when the storm comes, those thoughts help them recover. Be open to change but hold steady.

3. Be patient.

Stretch your patience as far as you think is possible. It’s not easy to love a mood swinger. They have their ups and downs and so will you, but if you’re patient enough to care for them despite their mood swings, you can be sure that you will be patient enough to handle anything.

4. Keep learning.

Life in general offers us a lot to learn. If you have chosen to love a mood swinger, life will teach you that nothing is permanent. Learn to deal with the bad moods and make the good ones worth remembering. You can never predict their mood. You have to keep your eyes, heart, and mind open. If you make a mistake, be sincere in your apology and learn. If you pay attention, you will discover more about them than you expect.

5. Never assume anything.

Ask. Always ask. You may have done something wrong or you may have hurt them. Maybe it’s not about you. They will not always tell you why. Maybe they have been trying to ignore unresolved problems or issues that they would rather keep to themselves. Don’t take it against them. Maybe they need to be alone or maybe they just don’t feel like talking. Don’t hold it against them. Listen. Never assume.

6. Be honest with them.

It won’t be easy to earn their trust. No matter how silly or messed-up your own thoughts and feelings are, if they ask, tell them or show them. Be vulnerable and open. People whom you love deserve the truth. It may hurt them and it may take a while for them to forgive, but always be honest. Don’t give them any reason to doubt you. If it’s bothering you, it may be bothering them, too. Tell them. Tell them, honestly.

7. Remember that this, too, shall pass.

If you love someone whose moods are quick to change and unpredictable like the weather, always think, “This, too, shall pass.” Whatever their mood is, under any circumstance, the only certain thing is change. It can be good or bad but nothing will stay the same. Yes, it will pass. Take something good out of it and use it wisely. Let it improve and strengthen your relationship.

8. Love yourself unconditionally.

You have to love yourself first. No matter what mood they or you are in, be committed to loving yourself. You can’t give something you don’t have. If you find it hard to love yourself, you will never have enough love and patience for a mood swinger. They are not the easiest people to love, but just when you think they don’t deserve it, that’s when they need it the most.

9. Decide to love.

One way to know and understand them is to love them. Once you have made the decision to love someone, commit to that choice. They may not listen to you or believe you now, but who knows where their mood might take them? No matter where their mood swings take you, always choose to love. Give them something to hold on to. Let them know you love them no matter what.
