This Is Why He’ll Never Give Up On You

We all know how this begins, the beginning of the end, so to speak.

Yet, we never really realize what goes on in a guy’s mind when he’s been let down.

After months of ethereal bliss, he is met with a sudden blow to his ego. But more than that, it so often becomes the reason he hopes to find someone new, to cherish the downfall and be met with a surprise of a lifetime.

His hopes and dreams become that of redemption; he prays that what his friends say comes true, that there are other fish in the sea; he searches through all the nooks and crannies to find a reason to believe that he indeed deserves better. That if she was the best, there was possibly someone who could suppress his thoughts of her.

We are all too familiar with what happens next, he moves on.

But, what about those who refuse to give up? Those who weren’t given a chance in the first place? The plain old nice guy who loses the girl for being exactly who he is?

What about that one guy who tore down his walls to let you in, only for you to leave an indelible hole that cannot be filled by anyone else?

Was he too nice? He may have loved you too soon and it was too crazy and too much, but guys like this don’t come along too often.

It may be weeks, months or even years at end, but I can assure you, he’s waiting for you. His thoughts wage war with his emotions, yet it always comes to a verdict.

That you, despite the numerous times he’s tried to get over the hill, are the girl who’s made him do things that he hasn’t done, the one to make him feel things he’d never felt, the one he loves against reason.

He won’t give up on you, instead, he’ll give you all the time in the world, and all the space you need from him. He understands that the circumstances may not be favorable, and that perfect timing is always elusive. He understands that you have yet so much to live for, so much places to go, so many people to meet. He understands that your hopes and dreams come before anything else, and that the least he could do is support you.

Albeit all the confidence he seemingly has in himself when he looks in the mirror, there’s no denying the fact that he is utterly terrified. He doubts whether or not he’s good enough for you; he fears for the day that you push him away, the way others have; it has become routine for him to compare every girl that comes along with you, only to discover that, you’re not like anyone else, because if you were, he wouldn’t even let the thought of you shift the course of his day.

When he thinks about your presence in his life, he’s thankful, because he’s never really understood the weight of love, or how one knows the emotion or feels it in their lives. But with you, he can’t avoid it, and embraces it wholeheartedly. He finally understood that the saying was right, that there are some things in life that cannot be explained, just felt. This is one of them. You are one of them.

You’re the decision he’ll keep choosing. Without a thought or bat of an eye. With a seemingly irrational conviction. Even so, there’s a certain solace that comes along with it.

He knows that if he tries again, he may lose you forever.

But he’s taking that chance.

Because you’ve kept him smiling since day one.

Because you make him want to be a better person.

Because you scare him a little bit.

Because your authenticity and determination are unusual to him.

Because of your heart of gold.

Even if it scares him. Even if it may turn out to be a wrong decision.

Even if he’s only ever been your friend. Your constant supporter. He sees all the red flags, hears all the warnings and ignores them.

Because for him, it’s a beautiful risk.

It’s a blind, yet worthy risk. It’s a complex and incredibly wonderful risk that he is willingly taking.

So he’ll take a chance on you.

Because you’re always worth another shot.
