I Hope Your Love Feels Like This

By

I hope they are the kind of love who always meets you with a kiss. Always. They kiss you as soon as they see you, and I hope it is the kind that tells you they must’ve missed you even when they don’t say a thing. I hope they never make you feel like they are not excited to be with you.

I hope they are the kind of love who reaches for your hand, whether you’re on the sofa watching movies, or when you’re walking to get groceries, or going to the park, or hiking, or just at random times unconsciously. I hope it is the kind that makes you think your hand fits somewhere perfectly. I hope they don’t brush your hand off in public.

I hope they are the kind of love who embraces you as tight as you do. I hope they always give you the five-minute cuddle you ask for that goes on for 30 minutes or so. I hope they make you feel they wanna be held as much as you wanna hold them. I hope every time you have them in your arms, you feel like you’re home.

I hope they are the kind of love who kisses you back every time you kiss them. Even though you kiss them a little too often, a little too much, and even when your lips are as dry as the Sahara. I hope kissing them is something you can’t get enough of.

I hope they are the kind of love you can spend time in the kitchen with. I hope you spend hours making meals together with sing alongs, back hugs, practical jokes, and taste tests in between. I hope they are someone who would cook their beans the way you like them. I hope they remember what food you like and don’t like. I hope they playfully give you the other end of the pasta like in the movie The Lady and the Tramp. And I hope they slow dance in the kitchen with you at 2 o’clock in the afternoon when the sun’s up or 2 o’clock in the morning when the world sleeps.

I hope they are the kind of love who pushes you forward. I hope they push you away from bad eating habits and push you to exercise. I hope they push you to pursue your passion and be open minded. I hope they make you see that the world is bigger than your little bubble and that you can live on the outside too. I hope you don’t feel like you are losing who you are, or that they are dragging and drowning you. I hope you don’t feel like they limit you; instead, I hope you feel they encourage you to not put limits on yourself.

I hope they are the kind of love who adds positive things to your life, and not take away any of the good things. I hope they are someone who inspires you to be better. I hope they compliment the things you are good at and encourage you to continue doing it. I hope they tell you the things they like about you, and the things they think you could change for the better. I hope they’re good for your mental health. I hope they nurture you physically, mentally, emotionally, sexually, spiritually, even financially. I hope they make you feel more. I hope they calm you. I hope they inspire passion in you. I hope they never give you reasons to doubt or worry. I hope they don’t confuse you. I hope they are the kind of love who comforts you when you need it the most.

I hope they are the kind of love who makes you feel you’re not and will never be too old for love. I hope you two play pranks on each other at 11 o’clock at night and laugh your asses off. I hope you go on spontaneous hiking trips at 8 o’clock at night and reach summits just in time to witness sunsets. I hope they don’t make you feel like your heart is aching for many things you wish you could do with them; instead, I hope they feel like they are your greatest adventure.

I hope they are the kind of love who is not easily angered. I hope they are someone who takes time to explain to you things that you don’t understand. I hope they don’t project their anger, or frustrations on you. I hope they make you wanna be patient, and always kind. I hope they keep you soft. I hope they don’t make you feel like anything could be your fault when it’s really not.

I hope they are the kind of love who tolerates your personality flaws or quirks or shortcomings. Whether it is your obsession with being organized, or your occasional nagging, or your vanity, or you taking too long to get ready, or you taking too long to get a joke, or you sleeping in the middle of the movie. Whatever it is, I hope they are patient with you. I hope you fall in love with each other’s imperfections. I hope they make you feel like you’re not hard to love.

I hope they are the kind of love who shows you the most intimate, most genuine, sweetest gestures. Whether it’s them shampooing your hair, or washing your face when you shower together, or them cutting your nails, or them even brushing your teeth when you’re too sleepy and just wanna skip it. I hope you look at them as they do it, and all you could think is how much you love them. I hope they let you experience things you don’t see yourself doing with anyone else.

I hope they are the kind of love who makes you feel that you can talk to them about anything and everything—no hesitations, no shame, no guilt, no embarrassment, no judgement, no hiding, and no thinking they might not be interested. I hope they are someone you can talk about how you feel with and that conversation doesn’t turn into disagreements. Instead, I hope their words are always supportive and encouraging. I hope they don’t evade difficult and uncomfortable conversations. I hope they are someone you can bare your fears and insecurities to and they literally kiss your tears away. I hope they ask you how they can make things better. And I hope they follow through.

I hope they are the kind of love you can’t get enough of. I hope they are someone who makes you ache in a good way. Like it hurts to think how you can’t hold enough of them in your hands, like you can’t embrace them enough, like you can’t kiss them enough. I hope they are someone you always look forward to being with. I hope they don’t suffocate you, and make you feel like you can’t be on your own. I hope they allow, and encourage you to be who you are and have your own time.

I hope they are the kind of love who makes you feel beautiful and makes you question why you ever had insecurities. I hope they are someone who makes you believe in yourself. I hope they make you love yourself more. I hope they accept you for who you are, and they don’t attempt to fix what isn’t broken about you.

I hope they are the kind of love you want to write poems about. I hope they make even the tiniest things seem special. Things like you waking up in the middle of the night as they make sure you got enough blanket, or them pulling you closer, or them not going to bed before you, or them always giving you goodnight and good morning kisses, or them taking out the burnt edges of the toast because they “don’t want you to get cancer”, or them spoon feeding you, or them giving you massages, or them waking up early to make you breakfast, or them letting you cut their hair, or them just always making you laugh. I hope they make you see the everyday little things they do as incredible gestures that say they will always care for you.

I hope they are the kind of love who doesn’t shower you with empty promises. I hope they are someone who lives in the moment with you. I hope you two make the most of each and every time you are together and not take anything for granted.

I hope they are the kind of love who will always choose you, and you will always choose to come home to.
