12 Women Reveal The Secret Beauty Hacks That Keep Them Looking Hot For Cheap

Ideas gathered from the genius women on Reddit! Feel free to check out more in this super useful thread.

1. Acne fighters aren’t just for your face

If you use a face wash like Clearasil or some other acne-fighter, use it to wash your armpits. It kills the smelly bacteria and it won’t be a huge deal if you forget deodorant afterwards.

2. Always be hydrated

Drink water. All the time.

3. Tricks to avoid razor burn on your legs

To avoid razor burn when I shave my legs I have a carefully developed formula.

  1. Apply coconut oil to your legs. Olive or almond oil works too, but I prefer coconut.
  2. Do everything else you have to do in the shower. Drink a shower beer, wash your hair, exfoliate your face, whatever. Clean up and let the oil do its thang.
  3. Take a loofah and exfoliate the ever-loving fuck out of your legs. Don’t be scared, really go it town on them.
  4. Use a moisturizing body wash on your legs. Shave as normal.

Your legs will be soft, smooth, and touchable. Guaranteed. You and your significant other can thank me later.

4. Try using glue. Seriously.

I don’t know if this is a good one or not, but after reading somewhere else on here a while back about the wonders of PVA glue (European version of an American white liquid school glue. Can’t remember the name), I tried it out on my nose.

Apply a layer, let it dry, peel off. My skin is pretty good, but the AMOUNT of gunk on that glue both sickened and satisfied every fibre of my being. Disgusting, but works better than any mud mask or black/whitehead remover I’ve ever come across.

5. Some all-natural beauty remedies

Exfoliate and cleanse with a complexion brush or exfoliating pad regularly, and moisturize every single day. There are moisturizers for every skin type, so don’t assume if you have oily skin that you need not moisturize!

Rosewater mixed with essential oils is a much gentler cleanser than most. If you use commercial cleanser, look for sulfate-free concoctions. Sulfates strip your skin of natural oils, and upset the Ph balance.

When applying anything around your eyes, use your ring fingers rather than your index fingers; you will be naturally more gentle with your ring fingers, and tend to pull too much with your index fingers.

Avoid long, hot showers most of the time. Sure, once in a while to relax is fine. But long, hot showers actually dehydrate your skin. When washing your hair or your skin, always rinse with cool water.

Keep your hands off your face! A lot of times, blemishes can be attributed to people’s habit of touching their face all the time, transferring dirt, oil, bacteria.

Soothe your skin a combination of chamomile, vitamin E, and licorice root extract. Especially good after a scrub, and helpful with red spots.

Don’t forget your lips and neck! Use the same moisturizer on your neck as you do on your face. Exfoliate lips gently with a sugar scrub and warm washcloth, then moisturize with coconut oil.

Easy recipes for beauty care:

Combine mashed avocado and real mayonnaise (homemade or jarred) for an easy deep conditioner to use once a week.

Rinse hair with apple cider vinegar if you have an oily scalp; follow up with cool water.

Mash 8-10 strawberries with a fork (don’t use a blender as they’ll get too liquidy) and add to that 1 tsp kosher salt, 4 almonds (whole, with skin, grated) and 2 Tbsp olive oil. Store, refrigerated, in a glass jar for up to 7 days. Use to exfoliate hands and feet.

If you have dry skin, mix 2 tbsp full fat plain yogurt, 1 tbsp honey, and 2 tbsp cooked and cooled oatmeal. Apply to face, neck, even chest. Leave on 10-15 minutes, then rinse with cool water for an excellent moisturizer.

To brighten dull skin and leave your face glowing, combine 1 tbsp each plain yogurt and honey with 1/2 tsp lemon juice, and 2 tbsp finely ground almonds (with skin). Rub into face, neck, chest for a couple minutes, then rinse with cool water.

If you have acne: Dissolve 5 uncoated aspirin tablets in a bit of aloe juice (1-2 tbsp) then combine with 2-3 tbsp plain yogurt, and a tbsp of honey. Mix into a paste and leave on your face 15-20 minutes. Rinse with cool water.

6. Double check your skin tone

If you are going to wear foundation or concealer, please make sure you have the right tone for your skin, and blend it in properly. Nothing looks worse to me than when someone’s face is orange and looks like they’re wearing a mask.

7. Stop washing your hair (for a little bit)

Skip a day of washing your hair. It benefits the hair because it needs the natural oils. And don’t brush your hair at the top first. Go from ends to get out tangles and then smooth out from the top.

8. Save your money removing makeup

I just started using vaseline to remove my eye makeup. I got a medium sized container of it for about $1 and a bag of cotton balls for also about $1. It removes all the makeup and is slightly moisturizing and non-greasy. I’d been spending $8-9 for makeup remover before that.

9. Use condition instead of shaving cream

Using conditioner as shaving cream is the best trick I ever learned. Any kind works (a big cheap bottle will last a year for me) and it doesn’t dry out your skin the way shaving foams seem to.

10. Aloe Vera Gel can save your life

Aloe Vera Gel is ridiculously amazing at smoothing skin & keeping acne at bay. Do a mask with it 10-15 minutes before bed, sleep, and wash it off in the morning. Feel free to do it every night. It reduces the size of a zit and it works well as a simple spot treatment.

11. Complexion Brush

Complexion brush. Cheap and worth it with most cleansers, especially ones that lather richly like gel cleansers.

12. Remember your vitamins!

Vitamins: high EPA fish oil, vegetable-based multivitamins, vitamin c with rosehips, etc. The better you are to your body, the better you look.
