I see you trying to push through the pain, trying to be tough, trying to convince everyone you’re fine when you’re really not. I can see through your bloodshot eyes and your forced smile because I’ve been there, most people have been there.
You want to be strong, you want to show the world your strength because the last thing you want is to have people talking about how your world is falling apart and so are you. You want to prove that you are tough, that you can handle what life is throwing at you all on your own, but sometimes you can’t handle everything alone and it’s okay to ask for help.
The thing is, you don’t have to be strong all the time. It’s okay to be weak. It’s okay to feel. It’s okay to be sad. It’s okay to ask for help, in fact, it’s encouraged most of the time.
You don’t have to bottle all your emotions away. You don’t have to lie to the people you love. You don’t have to be strong for everyone else when your world is crumbling beneath your feet, even if you think you do. Other people don’t always have to be your priority, sometimes you need to take care of yourself first. Sometimes you need other people to be strong for you.
You don’t have to be strong all the time because faking it can be exhausting, mentally and physically. It’s hard to pretend and it’s even harder to keep lying when all you want to do is break down and tell people everything isn’t okay. Because the truth is, everything isn’t always okay. You are allowed to mess up, you’re allowed to be sad, you’re allowed to struggle, you’re allowed to feel broken and confused and lost. All your emotions and feelings are relevant.
I promise you, admitting you’re struggling does not make you weak, in any way.
Find those in your life who love and support you. Tell them what’s weighing on your mind, tell them how you feel, let it all out because you don’t deserve to be a prisoner of your own mind. You shouldn’t have to pretend to be okay when you’re falling apart. Admitting you’re struggling can be one of the best things you do for yourself. It can take so much weight off your shoulders, it can show you who is really there for you, it can help you come to terms with what is going on. And admitting those things doesn’t make you any less strong.
It takes true strength to be vulnerable. It takes real strength to open up about the things that make you uncomfortable. It takes real courage to admit you’re having problems and struggling because it’s hard. Hiding your problems and pretending they aren’t eating you alive is the real weakness.
The most important thing you have to realize is you are only human, we’re all only human. We can only be strong for so long just like we can only manage so much pain before we need to ask for help.
Let your emotions out, ask for help, talk about your struggles because it will set you free from the chains you’re unnecessarily dragging around with you right now.
You don’t have to be strong all the time, sometimes you just need someone to take some of the weight off your shoulders and give you a break.
Confide in those you love, feel your pain and allow yourself to take care of yourself first. It’s okay to let other’s carry you a little bit of the way, like you’ve done for them so many times.
