Guess What? You’re Allowed To Put Yourself First

By

You should put yourself first, you should always put yourself first because if you aren’t putting yourself first then who will?

No one.

There is a difference between being selfish and caring for yourself, and that difference is vast, but important.

Being selfish is thinking the world owes you something, it’s thinking that people should cater to your needs and thinking that your needs are more important than someone else’s, even when they aren’t.

Putting yourself first is taking care of your well-being, it’s making sure you are physically, mentally and emotionally okay.

After all, you’re the only thing you have complete control over in this life so you might as well make sure you’re treating yourself right. Once you’re feeling good about yourself then you’ll be feeling better about giving to others. No matter how much you want to give and help others if you’re running low in your own life there isn’t much you can give to others, no matter how badly you might want to.

The way to giving is putting yourself first. Become the best version of you and only then can you be selfless and give to others.

If you really don’t want to do something because you’re feeling down and tired, then cancel your plans. It’s not the first time your friend has had someone cancel on them and I can guarantee it won’t be the last. It’s normal to feel guilty for bailing on someone, but don’t push yourself when you won’t be your best self around them. If they’re a good friend, they will understand.

If you can’t find it in you to get dressed up and go out on that date, then ask for a rain check. You don’t owe an explanation to him unless you want to give him one. If he’s the right person he will understand.

Don’t feel like you owe people anything when you’re struggling yourself.

If you don’t want to do something, don’t. If you don’t want to go somewhere, don’t. Don’t put more stress and strain on you when you don’t feel like you can handle it.

Don’t get to the point where all it takes is one more straw to break your back.

Sometimes you need more than rest; sometimes you need to heal.

Heal your wounds, because your well-being is more important than nearly everything else in your life.

You are the center of your world and you need to be someone you like and someone you like to be around. Don’t let the world break you and turn you into someone you’re not proud of because you didn’t give yourself the breaks you needed.

Don’t allow yourself to come second anymore, you’re not meant to clean up others messes; you weren’t born to cater to others. Don’t allow others to take advantage of you because you can forget how to put yourself first, but others won’t forget how to use you.

You’re allowed to make yourself happy; it isn’t selfish, it’s a necessity so respect yourself enough to do it.
