Sometimes we get wrapped up in the every day bustle of the world and we forget to take care of the most important thing in the world, which is in fact ourselves. Sometimes you owe it to yourself to take a step back, a day off and focus your time and energy on yourself because I can promise you when you get back to the office it will still be standing without you.

Take a breath, inhale the good and let go of the bad. Today it’s time to focus on you!

1. Delete all the negativity you see on your social media accounts.

If you really don’t want to delete them because you know it’ll cause more drama than it’s worth just mute them! Negativity breeds negativity so take a step back and no longer choose to look at it.

2. Wash your face.

I know it might seem like an annoying or tedious task, but it makes you feel so refreshed and clean after. Apply a face mask, drink some tea and relax for a bit. Your pores will thank you.

3. Treat yo’ self.

Do one thing a day that you want to do. Do it if it’s something you’ve been thinking about or because it makes you happy. If it’s getting your nails done, make an appointment. If it’s buying a new book, buy that book. Treat yourself to the one thing you’ve been withholding from yourself or haven’t had time to do.

4. Do that one thing that’s been weighing on your mind.

If it’s paying a bill that has been sitting on your table, pay it. If it’s changing the light blub that’s out, replace it. Finally be able to cross off the thing on your list you’ve been meaning to do.

5. Mix up your daily routine.

If you usually eat eggs for breakfast have oatmeal. If you usually watch TV before bed try reading or doing meditation. Try to bring new changes to your life to switch things up a little, even if they’re only small changes.

6. Get outside.

Go for a run and if running isn’t your thing head out for a nice walk. Fresh air and greenery does wonders for you.

7. Eat healthier.

Find a couple options and try to only eat those healthy foods for an entire week. Pay attention to your body and see how much better you feel only putting nutrients in.

8. Write things down.

If you have a great idea or something you want to accomplish write it down. Writing is a great way to exercise the mind and let a lot of thoughts go because you no longer have to force yourself to remember.

9. Make an actual to-do list you can cross off.

Crossing things off a list is a huge help because you can actually see the progress you’re making and it helps the mind relax a little bit.

10. Express gratitude.

When was the last time you told someone you loved them or thanked them for something genuine? Even if it’s just for being who they are. Don’t let the relationships in your life go unnoticed, make sure people know you are lucky to have them. Cherish all the good you have in your life.

11. Create a little sanctuary.

Craft a space where you can sit and reflect on your life. A place that makes you feel happy and calm in times of distress. It should be a place where you can find quiet and peace. Put some pillows down, light some candles and relax.

12. Find a new passion!

Find a hobby or create something. It could be jewelry or dream catchers or a table. Find something that interests you and learn how to create it and make it on your own.

13. Lather up your body in some lotion.

The scent of lotion can be really soothing for your body as well as overall calming. Buy a scent that you react well with, lather it on and soak it in.

14. Practice yoga or stretch.

It’s good to get the body moving and connect with yourself. There are plenty of videos on YouTube to watch if you need a little instruction, but just take five to ten minutes to breath and stretch. It will help you feel more relaxed at the end of a stressful day or get the blood flowing before you hit the workday.

15. Be kind to yourself.

Accept that compliment you were given and if you weren’t given one stand in front of a mirror and write down at least three things you love about yourself.

16. Go slower.

Don’t rush with the crowd in the morning. Don’t get road rage because of fear you’ll be late for work. Take a step back and move slower. Put your phone down on your walk to work and watch others, check out the scenery and soak in what is going on around you.

17. Declutter.

Decluttering might not feel like self-care but after the work is done you’ll feel both accomplished and all around better. By getting rid of unnecessary things it’s like you’re throwing away a weight that you didn’t need dragging you down anymore. I’ll suggest checking out minimalist lifestyles because it’s proof you don’t need a lot to be happy.

18. Plan and prioritize your life.

Make a list of what is important to you. Mine would be eating, sleeping, writing and exercising. If I made sure I did each of those things everyday I would be satisfied and feel accomplished. Prioritize your life and everything that isn’t a priority isn’t a necessity.

19. Laugh and have fun.

Life isn’t meant to be taken too seriously. Don’t stress yourself out to your breaking point if you can’t manage to do one more thing on top of the long list you’ve already accomplished. Give yourself a mental break and remind yourself missing one thing isn’t the end of the world.

20. Do something to challenge your mind.

It might be solitaire or a sudoku puzzle or figuring out riddles or create a website. Do something that exercises your brain and challenges you. It will be good for your mental health. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
