8 Reasons You Should Learn To Love Learning

1. The more you learn, the more you can potentially earn – Making money is a matter of providing a service, solving a problem, or using a rare and in demand skill or set of skills. Learning provides you will the skills needed to succeed.  Therefore the more tools you have in your tool belt, the more equipped you are to seize upon an opportunity that presents itself. There isn’t a wealthy person out there who doesn’t know quite a bit about their particular industry. Expand your knowledge base every time, and kick down the doors of opportunity.

2. Learning keeps you youthful – I truly believe that your true death begins as soon as your education ends. Curiosity and fascination rejuvenates the soul. Keep searching for new ideas, it will keep you filled with excitement and passion. Striving is what human beings are designed for. A continual learning process will allow you to transcend time. You will never truly grow old.

3. Learning is fun – Trust me. Once you find something that you are actually interested, learning more about it becomes extremely amusing. The reason many of us grow to hate learning is because of the way we are accustomed to learning. To most of us learning is a chore, something that is forced upon us, and that is why we stray from it once our formal education ends. The best part about self-education is that it’s up to you to choose your field of study. Everybody has something they’d like to know more about. Pick something you are curious about and you’d be surprised at how much of a thrill the journey of discovery can actually be.

4. Learning makes you more interesting – The more you know, the more you are able to talk about. You will never be at a loss for words in a conversation, as you will always have a repertoire filled with interesting facts and tidbits that you can share with your friends, colleagues, and acquaintances.  Seek to become a modern day renaissance man or woman. Become eclectic in your knowledge. You goal should be to at least have an elementary knowledge in a vast amount of subjects. You never know, that one interesting quote you memorized from an ancient philosopher may impress an influential person sitting at your table during a dinner party. Being smart is impressive, and you have to be impressive to get ahead in this world.

5. Learning can make you healthier – One thing that came as a result of my learning was living a more fit and healthy lifestyle. Once you learn about the way the human body works and how helpful or harmful the things you put into it can be, you tend to start paying more attention to how you treat yourself.  Read some books on different types of diets and exercise routines and decide which ones suit your composition. There are two illuminating and interesting books “Fast Food Nation” and “Salt, Sugar, Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us” that expose the insidious nature of the fast food industry, and may make you think twice before you pull into the drive thru at your local McDonalds.

6. Learning can help rid you of your ignorance – Knowledge liberates you from ignorance and misery. What I observed in life is that many of us are essentially stuck in our circumstances simply because we have no idea what to do to get out of them. Expanding your knowledge base can help you explore new and challenging paths in life, and help you to not become stagnant in life. Don’t go through life blindly, simply doing things without having any idea why you’re doing them. Learning more is an eye opening experience, and it can help us see life for what it really is, instead of what we “think” it should be.

7. Learning keeps people from taking advantage of you – Marketers rely on the vast majority of people to remain, for lack of a better word, stupid. The reason the rich get richer and the poor get poorer is because the rich employ expert level knowledge, and they rely on the less educated to stay in the dark and never seek to attain the same level of expertise. If you’re in a room with a group of people and you don’t know who the sucker if, I’ve got some bad news for you–you’re the sucker. You never want to be the sucker. Learning keeps you from being the sucker.

8. Learning is in your genes – The evolutionary purpose of designing such an amazing apparatus as the human brain was for it to be put to use. We are literally wired to be learning machines. It just seems that some of us may be taking for granted the power that we actually contain just by having a brain at all. There are more neural connections in the human brain than there are links in the entire Internet. Having a brain and not using it is like having a jet and not flying it. You are at the helm of the most powerful machine in the known universe. Use it. Use it often, and use it in the purpose of enriching the lives of your fellow people and making this world a better place.
