In 2020, Be Soft

By

Let’s face it: New Year’s resolutions never work out. We set all these unrealistic goals that we give up on in a month. So instead of setting an unrealistic goal, let’s reach for something tangible. In 2020, I want you to be soft.

Being soft means many different things. It means not letting the pressures of the world turn you sour.

It’s not making yourself smaller because you’re afraid of what others may think of it.

It’s letting the world see you for everything that you are.

It’s being vulnerable.

I know that sounds daunting, but even just an ounce of it will create so many new possibilities. Stop saying no to things that seem impossible and give them a chance.

Allow yourself a moment to breathe. You don’t have to constantly be on the go. Take in everything around you because life flashes by quicker than you know.

Don’t let past relationships ruin the future. In 2020, allow yourself the opportunity to feel again. Take down the walls you’ve worked so hard to build up and let someone in. Even if it doesn’t work out, at least you put yourself out there again. But even if it doesn’t work out, you cannot harden your heart again.

With everything going on in the news, it’s easy to get caught up in the negative.

Say hello to a stranger. Take time to genuinely get to know someone. Smile when you walk past others—it’s so easy to get caught up in ourselves that we forget to open ourselves up to others. Everyone is going through something in life that we may not be able to understand, so in 2020, make an effort to be a kinder person.

I hope the New Year brings you peace within yourself. Learn how to love the person you’ve become for everything you are. I hope you stop putting yourself down, that you learn to not only love yourself but also to take a moment to admire everything you’ve overcome.

Stop calling yourself a failure because things haven’t exactly gone the way you always thought they would. That is the beautiful thing about life—it never goes the way you planned.

Cut yourself some slack.

You are a wonderful person.

Stay soft because the world deserves to see someone so genuine.

Being soft isn’t just an amazing quality, it’s extremely brave.

So stay brave and make 2020 the best year yet.

Be soft in an unkind world.

You never know what that will bring.
