If someone were to ask how you’d describe yourself I bet you would tell them that you are a people pleaser. You’ve been doing it for some long it’s become second nature. I get it, you are the person who puts others needs before your own, the one who jumps to action in high stress situations, the friend everyone can count on, and the biggest cheerleader for anyone you know.

Isn’t it exhausting constantly living in this world where you don’t put the same time and effort into yourself?

When you stop living for everyone else you start living for yourself. It isn’t selfish to take care of you. If you aren’t willing to take care of yourself who do you expect to do it?

When you stop living for everyone else you start sleeping better.

You start prioritizing what matters in your life. Your physical, mental, and emotional health becomes a priority when in previous times it was seriously lacking.

When you stop living for everyone else you open a door to endless possibilities. You find new hobbies, you have time to finish that book you’ve been meaning to read forever, and you have five minutes to just breathe.

You learn that just because you aren’t always bending to others’ needs and wants doesn’t make you a selfish individual.

You learn boundaries.

More importantly, you learn how to say no and not automatically feel bad for it. You start to take into account your own well-being. It doesn’t mean that you’ve stopped helping others or being there you just don’t allow it to take over all of your space.

When you stop living for everyone else you learn who your true friends are. Those who are your true friends will understand the need to care for yourself. They won’t treat you differently because you aren’t always there at their beck and call. They’ll support you in your discovery of what you need to live a happy life.

You’ll learn how to stop and enjoy the little things. The little things used to stress you out to no end because you would focus on larger aspects for so many different things. When you lift that weight of what everyone else expects you can actually learn to stop and smile about the small stuff.

When you stop living for everyone else you learn how to forgive yourself. You learn that you’re only one person and it isn’t your job to make everyone happy.

You learn to make decisions that will be best for your future. You take into consideration others’ thoughts but they stop becoming the deciding factor. You learn that it is okay to try new things, to take that new job, to move to a new city, or to just do whatever it is you want to do.

You learn that other ideas of success don’t define you.

Most importantly you learn who you really are. When you give yourself the opportunity and room to grow you’ll be amazed at where life will take you. You’ll wake up with a smile on your face instead of dread. You’ll have a brighter outlook on what is to come.

You’ll learn that it doesn’t make you any less of a good person.

In fact, it makes you a better person.

You can’t help those you care about if you don’t care about yourself first.

You’ll learn about balance without compromising who you are.

You’ll learn that “me” isn’t a bad word.

When you stop living for everyone else you’ll finally get to live for yourself which you’ll learn is more than just a concept but a pretty great reality.
