If You’re Feeling Lost, Remember That You Aren’t Alone

Justin Bieber said it best: “‘Cause we all get lost sometimes, you know? It’s how we learn and how we grow.” But did any of us actually understand what he was saying? We’ve all had our dark places that we go to, but then we come out of them and it’s like it never actually happened. But that’s where we fail. We’re failing ourselves. We’re failing to realize that we went there for a reason, and just because we came out doesn’t mean it’s all rainbows and butterflies. Chances are, that darkness is going to happen again. But how you handle that makes all the difference.

What has you feeling lost? Is it a can’t-sleep, can-barely-eat, something-is-sitting-on-my-chest-and-I-can’t-breathe type of feeling? Is your anxiety so high that you can literally feel your heart about to burst out of your chest?

You’re not alone.

Everyone has a struggle they deal with on a daily basis. You lost someone close to you? Let’s work through that. You and your best friend got into a fight? Tell them too bad, you’re not going anywhere. You’re not making enough money? Get used to it—no one ever is.

We sometimes focus too closely on the problem without looking at the bigger picture and seeing all of the solutions. Don’t let the problem consume you. You’re feeling lost in a sea of emotions because everything is hitting you at once. You’re constantly there for everyone, but at night, all you have is you. Sometimes we need a swift kick in the ass, or if that’s too rough, having someone to baby you in your sadness is always encouraged. Too many times, we’re such a strong, independent, bad bitch that we forget how fragile we can actually be. We don’t allow many to see us like this, but it’s important to realize that you do have feelings, and those feelings should be acknowledged.

Stop giving pieces of yourself to people who don’t deserve you. You’re allowing the way a boy mistreats you, blatantly disrespects you, and uses you to define who you think you are, and that’s bullshit. You’re more than that. You constantly find yourself with the ones that like you, think your cool, or want to fuck you, but no one is actually there for you or to love you.

My heart breaks for anyone who goes to sleep at night feeling alone or questioning their self-worth. You are so much more than you think you are. If you’re going through day to day motions just to go through them, STOP. Do it for you. Start doing something for yourself every single day. You’re more important than you think you are. Your smile makes someone’s entire day. Your laugh is something someone can’t go a whole day without hearing. Your little hands and little feet are something someone’s thinking about right now.

Take these small things and make them big. Make them bigger than any problem you’re facing and do it for you. Decide that you matter and then everything else will too.
