I never ran past the stump. Never. The stump had been there for years, at the edge of where I turned around on my runs, right at that point where I knew I would have a hard time getting back without walking.
Growing up, I would hear the same line constantly: “Our family had a history of mental illness and depression, and that’s why this or that happened.”
It’s all in the numbers. That’s how you understand anything of real value in this world.
