14 Reasons Why It’s More Fun To Be Single

Tatiana Niño

1. You have so much freedom.

The best part about being single is that you can do whatever you want. No one’s imposing limitations on you. No one’s telling you who you’re not supposed to talk to and who you can connect with. Every judgment that you make, and every option that you choose are decided by you. It is you who have an ultimate control of your life.

2. You can be yourself.

There is no need for you to pretend because you have no one else to impress but yourself. You can choose whichever clothing that you feel comfortable wearing. You can dance around at a party without feeling self-conscious. You can be yourself anywhere you go and be confident in your own skin. You are who you are — and that is enough.

3. You own your time.

You don’t have to worry about meeting someone when you’re with your friends or family. You can relax with your love ones and just take your time with them. Your schedule is very flexible and you can always say yes to anyone who invites you to go somewhere. You are everyone’s favorite person because they know they can rely on you anytime, anywhere.

4. You love yourself more.

Self-love is one of the most important loves in the world. By loving yourself first before others, you start to feel good about everything around you. And by being single, you can focus all the love that you have to yourself. You take care of yourself more. You prioritize yourself. You provide all the best things in the world to yourself.

5. You get to know yourself more.

You figure out what you really want to do in life outside of relationship because life isn’t all about finding someone who’s going to love you, sometimes it’s also about finding yourself. Having more time alone means you get to reflect on the important aspects of your life. And you get to know yourself more on a deeper level.

6. You have the right to be selfish.

When you’re single, you have no significant other to take into consideration when you’re making bold moves in your life. You do what is only best for you. You choose yourself first. You think of yourself first. You follow your heart and care a little about someone else’s opinion.

7. You realize your worth as a human being.

You start to think of a relationship that you really want. You have those quiet moments when you look back, learn from your mistakes, and know exactly the kind of person that you want to settle down with. You realize what you deserve to get from a relationship. And you know better this time not to go for someone who doesn’t treat you with respect.

8. You are fully concentrated in reaching your dreams.

Since you have all the time in the world, and you have the luxury to own every minute of your day, you are focused in going after what you are passionate about. You spend most of your time pushing yourself to the limit and doing your best in everything that you do. You work hard day and night in achieving your dreams, and hope that one day, all your labor will come to fruition.

9. You are the only lead character in your story.

You don’t have someone beside you who dictates you what to do, how your story must be told, what you’re going to do next. You own your voice, your actions, your show. You are the one who decides when to turn the page of your story to the next chapter.

10. You become incredibly independent.

You learn to rely on your own. You don’t need another person to help you get things done. You are capable of finishing any task that you put your hands on. You want to grow without depending on others. You want to prove to the world that you are strong and brave and able to overcome any struggles by yourself.

11. You make your own happiness.

You get to a certain point in life when it occurs to you that you can actually be happy without a partner. And there are so many sources you can get your happiness from. At the end of the day, you are responsible for your own happiness. You can choose to mope around all day thinking of everything that you don’t have or you can look around you and find everything you can be happy about.

12. You are less stressed.

You never have to go through the drama of having arguments with your boyfriend or girlfriend. You don’t have to deal with complications a relationship can bring to you sometimes. Being single means you are less worried about life, and more relaxed every second of the day.

13. You have the opportunity to expand your social circle.

Given that you are allowed to mingle with everyone, you take the opportunity to expand your network. You have the chance to get to know different people and learn from their stories. You build bridges that are going to potentially help you to get to where you want to be in the future. And the greatest part is, you get to earn a handful of new friends.

14. You are able to share your extra love to your family and closest friends.

When your love for yourself is overflowing already, you can immediately share your extra love to the people who are close to your heart. You can lose everything in this world — career, money, relationship, fame, power — but family and friends are always there to save you, and love you, when you fall. So you always make sure you give them your extra time, attention, and care. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
