Though it hasn’t quite hit the radio waves over here in Asia, even living halfway around the world and a trippy internet connection couldn’t stop me from quickly becoming obsessed with Disclosure/Sam Smith’s “Latch.” I have shamelessly joined the cohorts of listeners that play the song at least once every evening for a sporadic dance party in my apartment. That being said, you can bet I have listened to copious covers; but this one may take the cake. The violin and piano combination counters the usual instruments accompanying other covers, and brings a new level of elegance to the already sophisticated song. And when the vocalist hits his first high notes, it’s like a flutter of angels just awoke from their naps in a soft meadow.
