Let’s Change The World

By

Sometimes, I wake up and I feel like I am carrying the weight of the world. I feel these little knots in my heart wanting to be softly untied. It is a build up of the sorrows of the world and mine. The build up of all the sad stories I heard and witnessed. All I have yet to heal from. I feel so deeply for the world and its humans. I feel so deeply for the grieving hearts, the lonely, the hurting, the lost, the starving, the oppressed, the judged and all I want is to take the pain away. I want to sprinkle sunshine over every soul out there.

I want to sprinkle sunshine over their lives because I also know that life can be good. Life can be inspiring. Life can make your jaw drop and I want everyone to get their share of beauty in their lifetime. I want everyone to never lose hope. Everyone is worthy. Everyone matters. Yet, at times, my mind races between a million thoughts and I slip under the chaos of my brain. I don’t know where to start and how to start. My mind races because I want to drastically change the world and make it a better place all at once, but it doesn’t work like that.

Changing the world we live in is not measured in achievements or awards. It is about making the slightest, smallest change in any one’s life for the better within your current capacity. It’s about intention, action and consistency and it should start by changing yourself. There is this quote I love by Leo Tolstoy that says “Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.” Changing the world would be such a lighter responsibility if we start by turning inwards and taking care of ourselves so that we can present the best version of ourselves to the world. By giving ourselves, the care we need, by filling ourselves up, we can give to others. We can be generous.

You are always shaping the world you live in. You are shaping it with your thoughts, your words, and your actions every single day. You are an example that influences everyone and everything around you. If we start to take responsibility for ourselves, and changing our own world first, perhaps we can easily be an example of hope for others.

You can’t carry the weight of the world and put the responsibility on yourself to wipe it all away but you can start now in any way, anywhere in a way that fits you. It could be smiling to someone, offering a hand to a stranger, supporting artists, visiting orphanages, offering the world your music, your expertise, or making someone laugh. It could literally be anything because anything is something and something from everyone is how we can drastically make the world a better place.
