4 Ways To Tough It Out With The Job You Absolutely Hate

Yes, you are finally offered a job which you thought was a perfect fit for you until…. 3 months down the road, you realized that all jobs are the same in every way – the work is mundane, the workload is crazy, your superiors are being a pain in the neck.

You start to question if this is job for you, you start to ask how long can you endure in this job, you keep telling yourself things will be better in the next few months and the list goes on.

If you are toying with such thoughts right now and start to dislike the job that you are in, yet you are unable to leave the job due to financial commitments or basically fear of not being able to find another better job if you leave this… you are not alone! There are probably many people out there thinking the same way like you do but no one has dared to voice out their fears.

Here’s 4 things you can do to make your day a little better:

1. Get Your Mindset Right

It is very important to set your mindset right so that you do not wake up with negative thoughts each single work day. There is bound to be something good in your job – is it the high salary? Is it the great colleagues that you have? Or is the office near where you live?

Whatever the reason is, always tell yourself the reason why you are working and to live by it each day you go to work. With a goal in mind, you will always fall back on that goal to keep yourself moving forward in the job.

It is also necessary to care less about how others think of you and focus on what makes you happy. Let me quote an example – I once had a superior asked me if I had commitments after work as I was always seen knocking off on time (and not to forget I come to work punctually too). I simply replied saying that I had completed all my work within office hours and did not see the need to stay back. By saying that, I probably would have upset my superior in some way or another but I felt that I was not wrong in any way. In fact, shouldn’t all superiors encourage your staff to leave on time?

2. Have Something To Look Forward To After Work

We all spend most of our time at work in the day and that is enough to make us miserable. To help you get through the day, why not plan something after work so that you have something to look forward to! It can as simple as rushing home to catch your favourite television program, to attend a yoga class or schedule a quick dinner catch-up with your buddies.

Little things like these will help you survive a (bad) day at work.

3. Plan Major Holidays

Always bear this in mind – holidays are a necessity to recharge, it is not a waste of money!
In a year, there are 12 months, it is highly recommended to take 2 major holidays in a year. When I mean major, I am taking about taking at least a 7-10 day break.

Our mind gets pretty stress out when we work and we need holidays to recharge and relax. What’s more, once you have planned on going on a holiday, you will start to distract yourself by doing research on the destination of your dreams! This also helps to release some tension at work because… I am sure you probably will spend some time at your workstation researching.

4. Plan Getaways

If you are a travel buff and 2 major holidays aren’t enough for you, then consider slotting in a couple of getaways! Getaways can be a 2-3 day trip to somewhere nearby and with some clever budgeting, it will not cost much. The objective of a getaway is to break the momentum of work. When you find yourself too caught up and stressed over the slightest things at work, it means it is time for an (impromptu) getaway.

You may think a getaway is not worth taking because of the costs involved but think about the enjoyment and fun that you will have for the next 2-3 days. This is what I call a short a “reality escape” trip.
