I Know I’m A Pain In The Ass, So Thank You For Loving Me Anyway

By

I’m a pain in the ass.

I tell you I won’t need a jacket, but then I ask you for yours when I get cold. I tell you to pick the restaurant but then I complain about what you choose. I take all your sweatshirts and hog all the blankets. I blow things out of proportion and sometimes I cry for no reason.

At times, I’ve expected more from you than I have given in return, and I’ve broken promises I’ve intended to keep. I’ve taken you for granted more than once. I’ve said things I don’t mean, and I’ve let irrational thoughts clutter my brain.

But you love me anyway, so thank you.

Thank you for loving me even when I’m in the wrong but I won’t admit it. Thank you for loving me even when I frustrate the hell out of you because I can’t make a decision to save my life. Thank you for loving me even when I’ve been selfish, or mean. Thank you for loving me even when it’s been the hardest thing to do. Thank you for loving me even though I’m flawed. And thank you for loving me even when I haven’t always loved myself.

It’s some of the reason why I love you back. But my favorite reason is because you’re a pain in the ass, too.

But I love you anyway, and I always will.

I love you even when you snore so loud I can’t fall asleep. I love you even when you can’t find your keys. I love you even when you’re late, and I love you even when you get distracted by the game on TV instead of engaging with me.

At times, you’ve taken me for granted. You’ve said things you didn’t mean. You’ve been stubborn and mean. You’ve hurt me and you couldn’t take it back, but I’ve loved you anyway, because I know that you at your worst, is worth everything you are at your best.

I just hope you always know that I’m worth it too.
