Two 13-year-old girls vanished while going hiking along Deer Creek in Indiana. Liberty “Libby” German and Abigail “Abby” Williams had been dropped off around 1:00pm EST to explore the area, but parents quickly grew worried when they did not arrived at a predetermined location for pick up.

After searching the surrounding area into the late afternoon, parents notified the authorities. Police quickly put out a notice for the two missing girls:

Libby is described as 5’4″ with a heavy build, shoulder-length blonde hair and blue eyes. She was wearing a tie-dyed shirt that is fringed at the bottom, gray sweatpants with unknown black lettering and black Nike shoes.

Abby is 5’4″ with a small build, medium-length blonde hair and hazel eyes. She was wearing a gray zip-up sweatshirt with a burgundy t-shirt underneath and blue jeans.

Police do not suspect foul play at this time and have no information that would lead them to believe the girls are in any danger other than being exposed to the elements outdoors.

Around then, Kyle Smith made a Facebook status with the last two Snapchats Liberty posted to the photo-sharing app:

The bridge in the snapchat pictures is apparently known locally as the Monon High Bridge. It is in this area where search efforts intensified.

The first snapchat is the last confirmed photograph of Abigal, who is contemplatively walking on the bridge.

One commenter on Facebook claims to see people in the background of the Snapchat.

But others postulate that it’s just shadows.

Another commenter said she was in the area a little bit after 3:00pm, but didn’t see the girls:

Nope. I even walked all the way across the bridge and back. I only seen a guy when I first got there and another couple once I got on the bridge. I didn’t see the girls at all. I also didn’t take the trail that leads to the right. Only took the trail that lead to the bridge.

The second photograph seems to be a shot down the bridge, though some have speculated that the two snapchats were actually on different bridges.

Not long after the search got underway, two bodies were found in the area. And, tragically, it doesn’t look good.

The local school district has also acknowledged the apparent discovery of the girl’s bodies saying:

It is with heavy hearts that the school corporation day comes to an end. It is our understanding that the two bodies found today were those of our two missing Delphi Community Middle School students.

Police have only made limited comments on this case so far. Sergeant Riley told the press:

We are investigating this as a crime scene. We suspect foul play. The family asked us to thank the communities around Delphi and the people here in Delphi for assisting in attempting to locate the two young children who were missing here earlier.

It has not yet been made clear if there is a suspect in this case, or if police believe the perpetrator is still at large.

UPDATE:

Police are now looking to the ID the man in these pictures:

It appears as if the man is in a similar wooded area to the murdered girls.

“We are asking help from the public to help identify him so he can be contacted regarding what he might have seen,” law enforcement said in a released statement. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
