Once I Move On From You I Will Breathe Freely Again

By

When You returned to me
You took my breath away.
“You need to change”
So I lived and breathed in ways that you wanted me to.

When YOU hurt me
I prescribed myself an inhaler which I thought could ease the pain.
“Intermittent, short puffs”
Results were immediate, though temporary.

When You left me
I increased my dosage.
“More frequent, shorter breaths”
Enough to numb, a little short to kill.

When you move on from me
I will turn to deep breaths.
“Inhale deeply to suppress the words unspoken”
To wean off the inhaler, & you, once and for all.

& learn to breathe on my own again.
