I Fell For Poetry

By

I fell in love with the way words turn into
emotions when words hit a page.
I fell for the way words trickle off my tongue,
giving my heart meaning.
I fell for poetry before I fell for you.

You walked into the room like you owned the place.
Your longing counter stare caught me off guard.
You looked into my eyes like you saw my soul,
not the frizzy hair on top of my head
and the scare on my nose.
I didn’t even know your name.

My body and mind knew
my future words,
future thoughts,
and future poems.

You stole my poems out of my hand,
and gave me a glimpse of solitude.
I fell for poetry before I was in love with you.
