Never Think You Are Broken

Let me tell you something before you begin to read this: you are not broken. You are a thing made of the toughest kind of platinum there ever is, there ever was and there ever will be. And let me tell you why. Because you are still here.

Despite every morning you awoke with a great big pain in your chest the size of a bullet that shot straight through you, despite every single so called best friend that betrayed you, despite the person who abused you to the point that you felt worthless, that no one would ever want you again, not only did you cope, you got the hell out of bed, you put on your clothes and you went out and faced the day because you knew you had responsibilities.

That, that is what a survivor does. That is what lionesses do. That is what the wild does, it carries on, despite every forest fire, despite every angry thing that broke through it, despite the bulldozers that tried to diminish it completely, you, my dear, rose from the ashes, the way a phoenix does, the way a sapling does after the most devastating of forest fires and you took on the world with it’s cruelty and said “You haven’t beaten me. I am not dead yet. I am not finished yet, I am still here.”

I want you to remember this. Every bad day that happened, every awful thing that ever happened, all the damage they did to you did not defeat you, it did not destroy you. Instead, you took all of that pain and you turned it into a more beautiful version of yourself. The cracks they caused within your soul, you can still see them. Of course, there are scars that will never ever go away. But did you know that there is an entire craft, an entire artform dedicated to taking broken things and filling their cracks with lacquered gold. Do you know why? Because it is the history of that object that deserves to be remembered. And if the history of an object can be so precious that we reminisce it with lacquered gold, then why shouldn’t we do the same for the damages that have been done to our minds and our souls?

The bits of you that are broken, the bits of you that are damaged, do NOT see them that way. Instead see them as slowly being filled with beautiful experiences and truths you have learned from the damage, the equivalent of lacquered gold.

I want you to remember, you are not a broken thing, Instead, you are a human full of incredible and wonderful experience, made of the same things swords and diamonds are made of.

You are a survivor, my darling, and I salute you for everything you have been through, and for making the universe so proud, so very proud of what you have become. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
