12. Hudson Hawk

Like Howard the Duck, Hudson Hawk became a punchline with few people actually seeing it, but I’m sure there was a time in which this sounded to everyone like an interesting idea. The film experiments with blending action, comedy, musicals and cartoons in a surreal mismash that’s so perfectly miscalculated that you wonder if the film’s badness wasn’t intentional. How else do you explain scenes where Bruce Willis beats people up while singing Paul Anka?

The movie wants to be everything all at the same time, but the effect is like being trapped in a strange dream you can’t wake up from, one with far too much of Sandra Bernhardt yelling at the screen. Norman Bates once claimed that we all go a little mad sometimes, and I think he was talking about this movie.
