Dear Best Friend, Thank You For Leaving

By

Thank you for your friendship.

Thank you for being there when other friends left me. Thank you for being there when I couldn’t put into words what I felt. Thank you for giving me your love and trust. Thank you for showing me what friendship looks like.

Thank you for calling me out on my bullshit. Thank you for challenging me to do better, be better and work better. Thank you for seeing me as me and not what you expect. Thank you for being open-minded and non-judgmental.

Thank you for the times we hung out until the late wee hours just being friends. Thank you for all the times we spoke about nothing, spoke about everything and sharing pieces of our hearts with each other.

Thank you for seeing my faults and loving them anyway. Thank you for sticking it out even if I created waves without meaning to. Thank you for talking to me when I did something to hurt you. Thank you for creating boundaries. Thank you for being yourself.

Thank you for telling me reasons why you loved being my friend. Thank you for just being part of my story. Thank you for being part of my life because honestly there were times when I felt like dying. Thank you for being there when everything was falling apart.

Above all, thank you for being my friend and letting me go when you did.

Thank you for looking after your own heart and knowing when our friendship was no longer a friendship. Thank you for standing tall and letting me know: “I love you, every part of you. It’s just that we no longer can see eye to eye or be friends like we used to.”

Thank you for having the decency to turn away when my presence took away your joy. Thank you for knowing yourself well enough to know when to fade out of my life like a breeze. Thank you for showing me that this is what a healthy person looks like.

Thank you for giving me goals to reach because one day – I’ll be that kind of friend. Thank you for showing me what it’s like to be the kind of person who knows when a relationship is no longer worth saving even if you love the other person.

Thank you for having enough self-respect and self-esteem to walk away.
