15 Fabulous Looks That Will Never Go Out Of Style

Fashion is what corporations tell us we should be wearing whereas style is u doing u. The most stylish people are the ones who break all the rules, who do what they want and don’t listen to anybody who says things like, “acid washed jeans are so over” or “I’m only following the latest trends.” Want to know why? Because trends come and go, but eventually they always cycle back to the present. Well everything except for JNCOs, so please Anna Wintour et al can we let those things RIP in 1992? No matter what else is going on in the fashion cycle during a given season, there are a few things that are always going to be in fashion, no matter what we see on the catwalks. Here are 15 looks that will always make you look amaze.

1. Shoulder Pads

There’s nothing better to demonstrate to others your unbridled fabulousness than a power shoulder and some nice leather gloves. ALSO? YES GAWD TO EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS LOOK.

2. Acid Washed Jeans

Acid washed jeans are so funny. Like I think it would be kind of kooky to wear all acid washed everything, like the whole head-to-toe, but a little splash of stone-washed denim never hurt anybody.

3. The Half Shaved Head Look (YES REALLY)

So yeah, this look is kind of played out right now because everybody with a dream for seeming cool just shaves off half their head and thinks that’s all it takes. I’m a sucker for severity and severe looks, and really the half shaved head look is part of that whole 90s grunge thing and has been around since then.

4. Being Artfully Mismatched

Everyone thinks that matching is key, that you have to match your handbag to your shoes to your belt to your eyeshadow to your panties. But like, no. The best style is when people just throw on whole bunch of shit that doesn’t seem to make any sense together! Candy cane leggings with purple pumps, red shorts, red gloves, a rainbow purse, a blazer, a Seinfeld shirt AND a leopard coat? I AM LIVING.

5. Huge Earrings

Wearing as much jewelry as possible is a brilliant idea, and huge earrings are the best. They fab up even the simplest look.

6. A-line Skirts

A fashion classic.

7. A Bomb-Ass Leather Jacket

Leather jackets toughen up any look. You can wear them over literally everything — a dress, a hoodie, sweats, a suit jacket, some other kind of jacket, and they will make you look relaxed and HASHTAG AWESOME.

8. Afrocentric Hairstyles

Black hair is always a fashion statement. Whether you go with afros, or braids, or dreadlocks, you are saying something and it is fabulous.

9. Cosby Sweaters

I went to this thrift store in Chicago that was FULL of Cosby sweaters. Like the section was actually labeled “Cosby Sweaters” lol.

10. Fine Ass Men In Well-Tailored Suits

11. Converse

Converse are like leather jackets for your feet. They make everything look relaxed and cool and awesome. The more worn-in the better, and you can pair them with nearly everything and look delicious.

I love black clothes because you have to be creative to make the look really pop. You have to experiment with jewelry and scarves and what not. All black — black skinnies, black leather jacket, a white v-neck with Converse or boots or stilettos — is probably one of my favorite looks of all time. Actually it’s what I’m wearing at this exact second.

13. Creative Hair Color

Like the half-shaved head look, this is another one that has been done to death. But every time I see someone with creatively/Kool-Aid colored hair I’m always surprised by how they were able to pull it off. My personal favorite is this greyish purple white that looks so good. That or teal. Faintly teal hair is awesome.

14. Hoodies

Having a fabulous winter look is all about layering. You don’t need loads of winter gear, unless you live in ChiBeria in which case, GOOD LUCK. You can just do a hoodie under a leather jacket or a pea coat and be amazing.

15. A Trench Coat

Trench coats are the bomb. They hug your body, and something about that makes people really curious about what’s going on underneath.

BONUS: Any kind of asymmetry. It’s the best way to keep them all guessing.
