“It’s Handled”: 35 Times People Lost Their Sh*t Over ‘Scandal’

By

The majority of shows I watch I catch on the Internet a day or so after they air. But not Scandal. Girl, when Olivia Pope & Associates is on at 10 p.m. on Thursday night, don’t call me, don’t schedule a meeting, don’t email me, don’t send a fax. Last night’s Season 3 premiere of left me hollering and screaming at my television, all while downing a big glass of red wine, Olivia Pope style. Scandal is the one show you have to watch right when it comes on, or else you feel like you’re missing something. Why? Because you are: at least a dozen of your Facebook friends or Twitter followers will be live-bloging, going ape-shit over every plot twist and bitchy quip.

I really lost in when daddy was all, “What did I always tell you? You have to be twice as good to get half as much,” a mantra that every person of color has been told by an elder in their family. People of color have to work twice as hard as white people just to get half of what they have. It was so delicate and brilliant — bringing race into the equation without even being obvious about it. At that point, the black Internet lost it. Participating in the live blogging and reacting to the show on line with a bunch of strangers adds a whole new weave track layer to the experience. But, um, how are we going to survive long enough to make it to next week?!
