Getting ready to go out is such an arduous process. Maybe you’re one of those people who tries on several looks and/or combinations of looks before you finally head out the door, 110% certain you look good enough to get laid tonight. You shave and get your hair together and spray cologne on your genitals — stuff like that. I have a playlist of songs that gets me in the mood to go out every weekend. Well, it’s not so much a playlist as it is a few songs I always, always play when I’m drying myself after a shower and lovingly covering my body in cocoa butter. There’s nothing like a good song to get you pumped up and ready to go out — sort of like pre-gaming or warming yourself up to all the forthcoming ridiculousness.

Here are 5 songs that will definitely get you pumped and ready to hit the house parties/bars/clubs/poetry readings you’re going to this weekend.

“Wavvy,” Mykki Blanco

Mykki Blanco, a.k.a. Michael Quattlebaum, is one of the most exciting things happening in hip hop right now. Michael performs in a kind of queer drag as Mykki Blanco and spits just as good if not better than anybody out there. So get “Wavvy,” hunties, a track about feeling, like, “wavy” from all the perfectly legal substances you are doing in the back of the club.

“#1 in Heaven,” MNDR

Electronic music duo MNDR is not as widely known as they should be, but they are right here on this list so now you have no excuse not to know about them. “#1 in Heaven” is from their 2012 debut album Feed Me Diamonds, and I’ve been listening to it basically every day non-stop. It has that old school disco feel and pulsating heartbeat thing that always gets you moving and feeling fabulous.

“The Wake-Up,” How To Destroy Angels

This one might not be everyone’s favorite because it’s kind of dark and bombastic, but before you people rush to the comments to say how much IT SUCKS just give it a shot! Turn it way up. It’s really short — not even two minutes long — but I love it because when you play it loud it really feel like the Earth is crashing in on you. Like you’re going to explode from the inside. Like you’re getting fucked — by the bass.

“How Deep Is Your Love?,” The Rapture

I love The Rapture, and “How Deep Is Your Love?” is hands down my favorite song to dannccceeee to. It just never gets old. One time I was in this performance piece where this stranger approached me at my local cafe and asked to film me dancing in my apartment to my favorite song — it was an art piece she was doing. You know, capturing people dancing to their favorite song. This is the song I picked!

“Ima Read,” Zebra Katz ft. Njena Redddfoxxx

Zebra Katz, Zebra Katz, Zebra Katz. I probably listen to this song at least 5 times a day, no joke, because the lyrics are just so funny. “Ima take that bitch to college. Ima give that bitch some knowledge…It’s gon be cohesive. It’s gon be my thesis.” Now that is some serious reading. This is the perfect song to listen to before you go out just in case somebody tries to act a fool, you will now be prepared to read them for filth. Put your reading glasses on this weekend, everyone!
