10 Songs I Want To Hear At The Club

By

I get so turned off the second I walk into a nightclub and the music is just not hitting the spot. That Katy Perry song again? Everybody’s dancing like they’ve lost their minds. But… I don’t get it? Not that I have anything against Katy Perry or anything, and I do love me some Katy Perry/Rihanna/insert inflatable pop star here, but why would you pay a cover charge and buy expensive drinks in a place where you’re hearing songs you can easily hear on the radio? Seems silly. I guess I’m a little biased, though, because I love listening to standard pop songs but I don’t know how to dance to them. Like, what are you supposed to do? DJs hate it when you make song requests, so don’t do that. But sometimes you just want to take over the turntable and go, “Here, let me do it.”

I’m not a big drinker, so when I go out it’s all about the music. Music gets me high. When it’s good you lose yourself and forget all about those silly, trivial facets of life, such as the rent being due or the results of your STD test. So here are 10 songs I want to hear at the club. What are some of your favorites? Let me know in the comments.

The Rapture, “How Deep Is Your Love?”

When The Rapture sat down to write “How Deep Is Your Love?” for their most recent LP In the Grace of Your Love, they must’ve known they had a hit on their hands. Deep bass and keyboard strokes make you feel good.

Scissor Sisters, “Let’s Have a Kiki”

It’s hard to listen to this song and not go around talking about “ki ki” all the time. You’ll text your friends, “Hey, are we gonna ki ki tonight?” If you’re wondering what song will get every queen in the room on the dance floor, this is it!

Azealia Banks, “212”

Miss Banks is everything, serving you hip hop and black gay culture all at once. But she’s also a lyrical genius. I mean, can you come up with a better verse than “You know what your bitch become when her weave in”?

LCD Soundsystem, “Dance Yrself Clean”

Slow disco with an edge. I live for the beat drop in this song, though I wish it got to the point a little quicker. Still, a great listen. My neighbors probably hate me for playing this so loud, all the time. Sorry about that, guys.

Carly Rae Jepsen, “Call Me Maybe”

Okay, you hate this song but you love it sooo much! Pop songs can’t get any more addictive than this. Also, her new album just dropped yesterday! Do you think she’ll have another runaway hit?

The Knife, “Heartbeats”

Everything Swedish people make is so cool — Ikea, Volvo, H&M, Cheap Monday, and The Knife. “Heartbeats” is already ten years old, but it sounds like it was dropped yesterday.

Beyoncé, “Crazy in Love”

This is my favorite Beyoncé song ever. “Crazy in Love” was her first single away from Destiny’s Child, and no song she writes will ever top this.

Brazilian Girls, “Jique”

The best thing about Brazilian Girls is that they’re not girls and they aren’t Brazilian, either. I wish they would release another album.

Bag Raiders, “Shooting Stars”

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=feA64wXhbjo]

Love this song. It’s light, airy, and just as addictive as “Call Me Maybe.”

Rihanna, “Where Have You Been”

This is one of Rihanna’s best songs, and it’s kind of confusing: is it supposed to be a pop song or some kind of rave-like EDM hit?
