If You Were Here Today

By

If you were here today, I’d grab ahold of your hand as quickly as I could. Because years without the warmth from your veins had me bleeding dry.

If you were here today, I’d study the way your eyes looked back at mine, and be quickly transported to better days when I was seventeen and running wild.

If you were here today, I’d place my hand on the back of your head and kiss those lips that I have prayed for since the day I left.

If you were here today, I’d smile shyly at you, waiting for you to say something about the way my hair looks or how you think it’s cute I still like the color blue.

If you were here today, I’d plant seeds of me on every part of you, making sure that you will never forget the girl who had you first.

If you were here today, I would shower you with ‘I love you’s’ not caring if it made you wince. Because those three words have only been true when it was said to you.

If you were here today, I’d memorize the way you say my name and promise myself to never forget the way it made my heart flip.

If you were here today, I’d recap the last three years that you missed out on. I’d tell you that nothing and no one even compared to you, and I’d tell you something cheesy about the way I still dream of you.

If you were here today, I’d soak you up like you were the sun and I had a vitamin d deficiency.

If you were today, I don’t know how I could ever let you go again.

If you were here today, I would give you every damn reason to stay.

Just stay.
