Women Still Aren’t Funny So Don’t Laugh At Tig Notaro

So everyone knows that women aren’t funny. I’m going to choose not to support this statement with any evidence. It’s just basic science knowledge something I’m just saying because of, you know, their bodies, periods, and inherent fear of laughter. Also, women JUST NOW learned what humor is, so even if they could be funny they have no practice at it. They have to catch up, because as we all know, women did not have heads before 1985.
Overall though, women aren’t funny. Or they are sometimes funny like by accident, or if a man makes a joke and it bounces off of their boobs. But women are never as funny as men. Men in turn, are never as funny as robots, masturbating robots, or cats. Hydras are often funny, but they should really be taken on a case-by-case basis and just evaluated individually by identifying the nuance of each specific Hydra and each specific head on that Hydra. While humans are all pretty uncomplicated and can be wholly categorized based on their genders, mythical creatures cannot.
Sure, there are some random exceptions of funnyish women—because if I didn’t have any it’d be more difficult to ram my non-argument down your throat. However, these are just one or two indisputably funny women who, despite being talented, more importantly happen to be very attractive, so that’s what I’ll credit for their success. One other example that can create the anomalous funnyish woman is gayness. As a gay woman who is into women, I hope to someday become funny because it is one of the few things I can do besides become a celebrity chef, gym teacher, or celebrity gym teacher—I’m looking at you, Jillian Michaels. For all you non-gay woman, though, it is important that you take the bait every time this 2000-and-late bogus fodder is buoyed to the surface. Definitely remain mired in this preposterous debate, entertain it each time for the fun, for the pageviews, and because, as we all know, you have no sense of humor.
However, everyone, funny or not funny, should please enjoy the new comedic stylings of Tig Notaro. On July 16, Tig Notaro’s “instantly legendary”, according to Rolling Stone, half-hour set LIVE, that was recorded last August at LA’s Largo, will be released on CD with a bonus disc, Tig Notaro Live at The Moth. The Moth is a renowned non-profit organization dedicated to the craft of storytelling and Live at The Moth is a poignant, story of how the passing of Tig’s mom has redefined her relationship with her stepfather. This story was chosen for an upcoming episode of the Peabody Award-winning The Moth Radio Hour, which will be aired in July.
You should know about comedian Tig Notaro, if you don’t already. She just finished a fifteen city national tour, and is set to appear in two new films out this fall: In a World, with Lake Bell, Nick Offerman, Demetri Martin, and Walk of Shame, with Elizabeth Banks, Gillian Jacobs, Kevin Nealon, and other people. Business Insider recently named Tig Notaro one of “50 Women Who Are Changing The World,” but I’m sure they didn’t mean to imply that she was doing so while being both funny AND a woman at the same time.
This American Life host, Ira Glass said of her, “Tig is now in the heads of hundreds of thousands of people who don’t see her as a comic—she’s now their favorite person.” Ira Glass may say every word like he’s telling you one of his last precious secrets, the ones that sustain the supernatural lifeforce hidden within his signature black-framed Ira glasses. Ira Glass may also be using his otherworldly whispers to hypnotize millions of unsuspecting listeners into inviting me to their dinner parties and telling me the same heartfelt anecdote about the malls of Middle America, until I finally raise my own underground militia to fight back against his artisanal army. However, I agree with him about Tig. She is one of my favorite comedians and I would consider her very funny if I did not know her to be a woman.
Tig’s record LIVE, was unlike any comedy I’d ever heard, including her own previous standup. Certainly raw and hilarious, it addressed her recent run of tragedy. The set famously earned her instant praise on Twitter from Louis C.K. (“In 27 years doing this, I’ve seen a handful of truly great, masterful standup sets. One was Tig Notaro last night”) and Ed Helms (“One of the most amazing stand-up sets I’ve ever seen”). Louis CK initially released a download of the set for a limited time via his website, generating a groundswell of critical acclaim. LIVE was ranked the #1 Comedy Album of 2012 by Entertainment Weekly, New York Magazine, and The Onion, and earned Tig features on Rolling Stone’s “Funniest People” list, Fresh Air, Vanity Fair, This American Life, NY Times Magazine, and probably your high school newspaper.
