Avril Lavigne – “I Can Do Better”

I’ve always loved Avril. Her songs lift up anyone who’s been down in the dumps from a breakup. She has a few kick-butt love songs, but she also has a few that’ll remind you that, really, you are better off without that person. “I Can Do Better” totally accomplishes this. “I’m better off without you anyway. I thought it would be hard but I’m okay… I can do better.” Click here for the lyrics.

Shania Twain – “Nah”

Ever listened to “Man! I feel Like A Woman”? In “Nah,” Shania makes you feel like your past relationship was just “OK,” and if you were given the choice to do it all over again, you’d simply reply with a very bored: “nah.”

Alanis Morissette – “You Oughta Know”

Dave Coulier really got a piece of Alanis Morissette’s mind when he broke up with her. This is one of those songs that says “You dumped me, and don’t you dare think I will let you forget it, you heartless piece of junk.”

Plain White T’s – “Hate (I Really Don’t Like You)”

You will not only be totally rocking out to this song, but as you sing along, you’ll realize that while you might think you miss your ex, you actually are glad he or she isn’t around anymore. “Good riddance” is what this song really says. The T’s will bring extra assurance that “now that it’s over, [you] don’t even know what [you] liked about [him/her]” Sing it, Tom!

Dashboard Confessional – “Screaming Infidelities”

Sometimes all we need is a good cry — a really long, loud and cleansing wail filled with tears and short breaths with ice cream and Coca-Cola within arms-length. If this is what you need, Chris Carrabba is here to help. In this sad song, Carrabba painfully and excellently portrays what it’s like to lose the one you love and experience the subsequent numbness and confusion.

Dashboard Confessional –  “The Best Deceptions”

Can you tell I’m a Dashboard fan? Chris knows how to mix it up with breakup lyrics. When you’re at the point of closure and moving on with confidence, this song will really up that feeling. “Kiss me hard, ’cause this will be the last time that I let you.” If you really want to say, “Your loss, moron. This sexy beast is no longer crying over you,” this is your song.

Britney Spears – “Stronger”

I almost forgot how much I love this album. Britney was really doing it big, especially with her self-empowering, ever renewing independence anthem, “Stronger.” It’s like “oh, you’re with someone else now? Whatevs.”
