I’m A Big Taylor Swift Fan, But I’m NOT On Her Side With This One

By

Don’t get me wrong, I adore Taylor Swift’s music. Songs like “Clean” and “Tim McGraw” will always have a special place in my heart. She is by-far one of the most talented singer-songwriters that our generation has ever produced, and I highly acknowledge that. She is one talented young woman who’s achieved a lot of accomplishments at such a young age.

With that being said, she is also someone who has caused a lot of controversies over the past few years.

It’s quite surprising how she is someone who’s had a lot of beef with different celebrities while she still retained her “sweet as apple pie” persona. She markets herself as this relatable underdog who has achieved everything she has just by her talent; and obviously it worked as she is seen as one of the reigning queens of the pop music industry — until today when she was abruptly dethroned.

But here’s the question: as fans, should we stick up for her despite how ALL the incriminating evidence points against every statement she has released so far?

Will that make us “disloyal,” “ungrateful” and “hypocrites” if we do not stand up for our music idol? My answer for that question is a big fat no.

For me, there is a big difference between being a fan and being a blind follower. Sadly, almost everyone who has claimed to be a so-called “Swiftie” is more of the latter and that’s what is worrying about the fanbases that celebrities have today.

They will swallow everything that their idol comes up with, no questions asked. A prime example here is how these Swifties still defend Taylor with just an argument comprising of diversion tactics. Statements like, “Why shouldn’t we focus more on the real issues here?” while in the same breath tweets something along the lines of, “Kim Kardashian is a talentless slut who’s using Taylor as her ride to fame.”

Then comes Taylor’s Instagram note, where I have read in an article is most likely prewritten due to the top left corner indicating “search” rather than “notes.”

So it can be assumed that she was expecting that this will happen and she’s already spent hours trying to find a way to salvage her image. A pretty cunning move for someone deemed as America’s Sweetheart, if I say so myself.

Also when we think about it, there has always been smoke when it comes to Taylor Swift. If she’s got some feud with one or two celebrities, I wouldn’t really take notice of it that much. But Taylor has had a lot of arguments and drama with several celebrities which is weird given the circumstances of her being heralded as this innocent and sweet young woman (in contrast to let’s say Kim Kardashian who has a more questionable public persona but far less actual feuds with her fellow celebrities). I am a firm believer that whenever there’s smoke, there’s obviously a fire underneath – and Taylor’s smoke has been spreading far too long for people to not take notice.

So what’s my verdict? I will always love and adore Taylor Swift as an artist but it is truly possible to separate Taylor the singer-songwriter with Taylor the celebrity.

There are several instances where I get her point and I was actually by her side, but sadly for this one I don’t believe that she’s in the right. Kim and Kanye may be questionable characters for some, but they have provided enough reason and proof to show that they are on the right and they are speaking the truth. At the end of the day, no one is attacking Taylor for her achievements nor for her being an empowered woman; but rather people are attacking her for pulling a deceitful tactic while still trying to retain a sweet public persona.
