All The Things I Want You To Learn About Me

By

Getting to know someone takes time, patience, and acceptance. This is a process that happens organically between people and can’t be rushed or forced. With that being said, there are only so many things that someone can tell you about themselves until you start to learn things about them that they might not be able to teach you. Everyone is continuously evolving, and often, they see themselves through other people’s eyes causing them to constantly be learning about themselves and how they are perceived. The only genuine way to know someone else is to observe and inquire without placing judgment. As hard as that is for a lot of us, it is equally as hard to let our guards down and allow someone to know who we really are and not who we want to be or who we wish we were.

I want you to know how awful a cook I am because you’ve tasted something I made.

I want you to know the last book I read because you’ve seen it on my night stand.

I want you to know which wine is my favorite because we’ve gotten drunk together.

I want you to know that I don’t know how most things work because you’ve taught me.

I want you to know when I’m being irrational because you’ve reasoned with me.

I want you to know that my palms sweat when I’m nervous because you’ve held them.

I want you to know what makes me cry because you’ve wiped my tears.

I want you to know that I talk to myself because you’ve caught me.

I want you to know what I do when I’m bored because I’ve called you to join me.

I want you to know that sometimes I drive too fast because you’ve told me to slow down.

I want you to know where my scars came from because you’ve asked about them.

I want you to know about what’s going on in my friend’s lives because you’ve met them.

I want you to know how I like my coffee because you’ve made it for me.

I want you to know where my favorite place is because I’ve taken you there.

I want you to know that I don’t watch many movies because you’ve forced me to watch your favorite.

I want you to know about my past because you’ve thought about our future.

I want you to know why I’m laughing because you’re the one constantly making me smile.

I want you to know these things about me because you took the time to. But more importantly than all of this — I want to know you. I want to know the things that you can’t tell me about yourself — the kind of things that someone learns only by spending time with you and soaking in all that you have to offer to the world. And most of all, I don’t ever want to stop learning.
